Bangladesh and the irony of Indian 'victory.'

Posted: Apr 18, 2008 Fri 06:43 am     Views: 110    Interacts: 0

GT,
The "close" relations between India and Bangladesh are a result of the '71 "victory" - unleashing Bangladesh as an independent "sovereign" nation. The problem is that "Sonar" Bangla that the late Shaikh Mujibur Rehman bragged about was no longer there. The demand for jute vanished with the more economical and sanitary synthetic products. Long before the '71 war, Bengalis had been streaming into West Pakistan, primarily Karachi, for employment. There are over 2 million Bengalis who work in Pakistan. The steady stream of BD nationals in search of a better life continues all over the world. Why should India, being next door and their great liberator, be spared from its fair share of cheap Bengali labor? Always a pleasure interacting with you, my friend.
