Who are we?
Much Effort has been devoted to the restoration of the judiciary but I don't think that is our gravest problem. you may think its energy, health or education but that's incorrect; these problems have fairly straightforward solutions. What we haven't been able to answer for more than sixty years is a simple question. Who are we?
How many people will beleive me when I tell them that coffee as a hot beverage was invented by the by the Sufis in the ninth century to help them stay awake for worship. And again robotics which is a fairly modern field takes its humble beginnings from the first mechanically programmable humanoid robot designed by Al-Jazari in the 12th century.
We need to remind ourselves that we have a heritage. Although western propaganda which has been bombarded at us for two hundred and fifty years (initially by the British by forming the "Gora Sahib" image and later by the Zionist controlled media which leaves no opportunity of glorifying the west) has tried to convince us that we may never equal them. We have many a times fallen into this trap and have criticized poor Inzi for not being able to speak English.
It is now time for us to regain our lost glory. We need to place more emphasis on the Muslim contribution the world. An excellent effort has been made by www.MuslimHeritage.com. We have to incorporate our culture into our system of education. Although it is quite clear that we spent the most part of the last 500 years in bringing the chapatti to a perfect circle, but we can still make the change by following the lives of Muslims who have changed the world. How many mothers want their children to become Abdul Sattar Edhi?
Why do our youngsters need to resort to TV shows like "Prisonbreak" and "Heroes" for entertainment? We grew up watching "ainak wala jin" and "Alpha Bravo Charlie" but then all Pakistani Television had to offer was something not even remotely comparable to entertainment. We forgot who we were and started copying what was being done outside our borders. About a hundred years earlier we shed our blood to make a country in which we could protect our heritage, religion and language only to find that language mutilated and turned into "Minglish". I believe I have given this nation enough food for thought. Unless we manage to remove the influence of the West on our minds we will never be able to question their interference in this country.
