when things really work

Responsible journalism,is paying dividends at least where dumb animals are concerned.this is an excerpt from metropolitan Dawn 30 aug 2008,Federal govt bans import of big cats-
According to highly placed sources.Earlier the federal government, following regular incidents of smuggling of big cats by certain wildlife traffickers, which was EXPOSED by the media while the official regulators either remained unaware or were hand in glove with the traffickers, had refused to entertain any requests for permission from these traffickers for the import of big cats till their cases were disposed of.
another story is about the gorakh hills. these also have featured quite a bit in the popular news dailies of karachi. now at least this has materialized.Gorakh Hills development body formed. They said that with the development of the gorak hills into a summer resort, a big change in the areas socio- economic conditions would be witnessed with the inflow of tourists.
how time flies. now it is becoming a bit hazy in the distance. when Omar R. Quraishi used to pen some powerful stuff in favor of environmental issue.his column won the attention of the supreme court which put a stop sign that halt immediately an ambitious construction work off Islamabad.a green gem of a forest, teeming with a variety of forest creatures, were threatened by this polluting development.before this, i had noted more interestedly the presence of orq through Chowk, when i read with some amusement what cayyene pepper said to him, in interactive pages.
the work of the media never finishes.they have to keep an eye on issues like the Clifton beach for public recreation as promised.people find it interesting to read, that after making a promise the authorties do not make it a forgotten issue.which they would readily,if the media does not keep coming up with perky questions and reminders vis a vis the status of the promise.lets hope the media keeps a good watch saving the MANGROVES of sonmiani beach from destructive encroachers.of course there are many more fronts in karachi and rest of Pakistan which want frequent reviews.
