Who owns a woman?

Posted: Oct 9, 2009 Fri 03:57 am     Views: 183    Interacts: 4

I am always astounded to see edicts declaring -

Women shall or shall not wear a veil
Women shall or shall not cover their hair
Woman shall or shall not wear a scarf/hijab
Woman shall or shall not wear skirts that are so many inches long or a specified length

Who the hell are you to tell me what to wear? Or what not to wear?

The ultra-mods and the ultra-fundos both are guilty of this. The former wants to declare that a woman "shall not" wear a veil (for example) because it imprisons her.
The latter wants to declare that a woman "shall" wear a veil (again for example) because it gets her respect.

Why don't you instead let women choose themselves whatever they do or do not want to wear?

I promise to keep all this in mind when/and if I get a wife. Thank you for writing about this all-important issue.

I also promise to let my woman decide whether to veil or unveil herself. That should be fair. No?

Its Allah and muhammed who has laid some laws on how muslima can dress herself......It was muhammed who put a viel on his wives because he was jealous about other people looking at his wives....He even forbade them to marry after his death.....and now comes quran.....

“O you Children of Adam! We have bestowed on you raiment to cover your shame as well as to be an adornment to you. But the raiment of righteousness, that is the best. Such are among the Signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition.” (Quran 7:26)

“And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear therof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons, or their women or the servants whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers, turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss.” (Quran 24:31).

“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Quran 33:59)

A muslim is required to obbey the prophet as in sunnah and follow the Quran in letter n spirit........hence you see burqa clad women all around in GCC and african countries.

but woman can't choose, she has to consult a man, doesn't she? only a man can get her married, she has to obey a man after marriage and needs a man's protection in the society. Heck she can't travel w/o a man!
