How To Boost The Pakistani Economy Quickly and Easily - In 5 Seperate Industries!

There is a plant which has been grown for several thousand years called hemp. The ancients used it in making ropes, cloth and even as a cement (such as the ancient Mesopotamian buildings). This crop is mostly grown in India and Bangladesh and they call it Jute.

In Pakistan it grows wild in two varieties. One variety is called bhung the other is marijuana (from which chars is made). The plant from which bhung is made is called hemp internationally. The main ingredient that makes a person high in this plant is called THC which exists in such small amounts in hemp that it can’t make a person high. Bhung is a mixture of milk, hemp oil and sugar. After a few glasses of milk and sugar anyone would get a sugar high so I don’t put much stock in the belief that bhung is a powerful intoxicant.

Here is the surprising part. Hemp oil is extremely nutritious and promotes health and well being (not the THC part). It can be used to make high quality textiles, it can be used as firewood by the poor, it can be used to make biodegradable plastics, high quality paper(better than wood) and even cement!

The best part is that the market for hemp products is growing internationally and be a great export item that will boost the Pakistani foreign exchange reserves and improve our balance of payments.

Hemp has a very short growing cycle of less than 150 days and can grow in some of the harshest environments because it is a weed. This means previously unarrigable land can be used for hemp production which can boost 5 different industries in Pakistan.

First I am going to show you some of the amazing qualities of hemp and next how we could make the most of it.

In 1941 Henry Ford made a car whose body was made from hemp. Th body was lighter and stronger than steel – you can read about it here and watch the following video:

Using Hemp a cement can be made which is stronger and lighter than regular cement! Check out this video:

From Hemp.com

Hemp is Eco-friendly and Renewable, it is time we start talking about HEMP!
Industrial hemp (very low THC cannabis sativa) or hemp, for short, is an incredible natural resource. Hemp grows as a weed and is cultivated in many different climates and soils. This makes it one of the most versatile and diversified plants known to exist.

Hemp is cultivated with three main uses for the plants .
Fiber - For centuries the fiber has been used for paper, rope and cloth. Hemp fiber is extremely durable and makes great clothing (levi jeans originally made with hemp).
Seeds - High in protein and very healthy for humans. Hemp protein powder is a great example of hemp seeds in action.
Oil - Hemp oil has stood the test of time as a fuel for lamps and ingredients in soap. Today, hemp oil is used in cooking and can be made into fuel (biodiesel or hemp ethanol)

Hemp could have a positive impact in rural areas as well. Hemp has a relatively short growth cycle of 100-120 days, it is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow, however, industrial hemp cannot be commercially grown in the United States because it is erroneously confused with marijuana. This is leaving our farmers behind in this multi-billion dollar industry while countries like Canada have successfully introduced hemp farming.

You can buy regular hemp seeds from many sites like this one and even a non-THC variety from this website.

Hemp has great nutritional benefits as outlined on this website. Here is a short extract:

Hemp seed and oil has been called "Nature’s Perfect Food for Humanity" - a wealth of health for everyone.

The oil can be used as part of a nutritional programme to maintain and improve good health. With a pleasant nutty flavour, Hemp Seed Oil is ideal for use in salad dressings, mayonnaise, dips etc. It is not suitable for frying as this reduces the benefits.

Hemp seeds contain the most balanced and richest natural single source of essential oils for human consumption. The E.F.A.'s not only help to restore wasting bodies, but also improve damaged immune systems, so it is not so surprising that modern researchers have studied them in relationship to the modern immune attacking AIDS virus. (Eidlman, M.D., Hamilton, ED.D, Ph.D 1992).

We have a large amount on unirrigated desert. Using simple desert reclaimation techniques and a fast growing, resilient crop like hemp – we can grow this stuff all over the desert and land that had been written off as useless.

Dawn had a recent article about a technique that may be useful to irrigate the desert called sub-surface irrigation posted here and also check out this amazing video about a desert reclamation project:

If you look at all the evidence – keeping in mind that India and Bangladesh already have the largest hemp production in the world – it makes sense that we use this in our industries as well. We can boost our textile industry, our plastics industry, our cement industry, our paper industry and our oil industry.
