How to Shave

Posted: Nov 16, 2003 Sun 09:22 am     Views: 32

I cringe whenever I hear stories of painful shaving experiences
from men. Shaving your beard everyday is not a difficult process
granted you put some thought in it.

Shaving cuts occur when:

a. Stubble is not prepared properly for shaving.

b. Blunt/old razor.

c. Shaving in a hurry.

Remedies for (b) and (c) are obvious. As regards preparing the stubble for shave, following steps make shaving a much easier
experience:

1. Rinse stubble thoroughly with warm water.

2. Apply a moisturizer to soften the hair. Use your fingers to
work the lotion in the hair.

3. Apply a shaving cream on your stubble, working it thoroughly
in the stubble using your fingers.

4. Rinse your razor in the hot water, you’d be amazed how well it
works against your skin.

5. Shave along the grain, slowly. Rinse razor in hot water.

6. First shave the jawline, followed by the neck, chin and
moustache.

7. Once done, rinse off your face with cold water as the cold
water closes the skin pores and helps retain mositure in the skin.

8. Apply an after shave balm or a skin moisturizer. DO NOT USE
AN ALCOHOL BASED PRODUCT; it will dry your skin and you’ll
look like your grade school science teacher!

9. If you have mastered steps 1-8, you may apply the shaving
cream again and this time shave against the grain i.e. reverse
blade technique.

Follow these steps religiously and you’ll have the best shave of
your life; any nicks/cuts are your own fault.
