Not believing the news, I called a few friends and asked, what was the situation in Karachi. The answers was shocking to say the least. People, who normally tolerated Musharraf hated him for allowing Benazir Bhutto to come back and loot the nation once more.
There was no love for Benazir.
As to the streets, a person told me that the morning after the blasts, he saw the streets being cleaned of human remains and blood as he headed to work and by evening, as he returning from work, the traffic was flowing smoothly.
Even in Lahore, everyone is saying the same thing and that is, that Benazir is back just to rob the nation again. A person in Lahore, uncharacteristically, said if the choice is between Musharraf-Bhutto, then she would go for MMA! When, pointed out that the MMA will end her liberalism, the reply was that one has to sacrifice personal interests for the sake of the country, when push comes to shove.
Sarcasm can be biting, but this sarcastic reply was deadly.
People, who were clamouring for democracy, are silently applauding the imposition of ban on political activities.
When a reporter asked one of the supporters of PPP, on TV, why he was supporting Benazir despite allegations for corruption and plunder; replied that it did not matter to him since it was not his money!!!
Incredible!
