Daylight saving

Posted: May 16, 2008 Fri 10:03 am     Views: 199    Interacts: 2

The federal cabinet has taken a decision of advancing the clock by one hour from 1st of June for the next three months. Now as much as I remember the last time they went for daylight saving in 2002, the electricity consumption had doubled. It had flopped miserably.

This daylight saving creates confusion in everyone’s mind. You get to hear things like that,

“Ok then I’ll see you at 10:00 on Wednesday.”

“10:00... according to new time or the old time?”

“Well, I didn’t bother to change time… I am still following the old one. The new one is for offices not for us.”

“Yes, it confuses me so much… don’t ask.”

The important thing is will it help to overcome the electricity crisis this time or not?

Daylight saving is a very useful tool and successfully practiced in varios parts of the world - especially the developed countries. People in Pakistan might not be used to this activity, but they'll need to get used to of it!

How often we debate of us - Pakistanis - doing things in modren ways! Well, this is one of them and hugely needed in Pakistan. It almost feels like mid-day at 10.30 in the morning!

I guess real need is to campaign and lobby positively such changes so people get to understand the real benefit of day light saving!
