Sanyass as the resting period of evry Hindu before he merges with the infinite

Sanyaas is the last Ashrama of a Hindu life.

After passing over the Ashrama or Abodes of Brahmacharya ,Grahastya and Vanaprastha a Hindu dwija MUST take sanyaas.

Many of the modern day hindus do plan for their old age life that they call as 'retirement'. But a hindu must plan for complete renunciation or sanyaas so that he passes over the samasara and never gets born again.

Hinduism ensures that we do not remain trapped in the samsaara and attain the enternal bliss that is BEYOND THE SWARGA or Jannah.

all sanyasis MUST dis-associate themselves from the civilized world - they must live outside the 'civilized' world and MUST NOT interact with the people involved in the 'civilized' world .

In past the sanyasis used to live in forests and abandoned places - but nowadays since all area has been appropriated by the 'civilized world' hence it becomes difficult for them to be recluse.

Sanyaas is one of the compulsory events of a dwija hindu's life - un-fortunately old age hindus are not taking sanyaas in old age and I feel this is one of the reason for the downfall of hindu religion!!!


A sanyasi avadhut is a renunciant who renounces every possession in his world including the clothes he wears.

This is one of the perfect states of renunciation that should come out of "vairagya" or attachment towards worldly pleasures and pains. Actually, an avadhut is supposed to live outside the human settlement and is supposed to live like a fakir.

In Jainism the digambars do not wear any clothes and it is accepted.

In various other panths of sanyasis - including NATH Panth , they do not wear any clothes.

So, nakedness of sanyasis is a result of his surpassing the bonds of his sexuality and is considered as a difficult to achieve state- Yes, nakedness of such sanyasis or renunciate is a reflection of the most sacred of all the human states in hinduism-

Infact- I remember that there is a beautiful hymn for the kopin or small piece of langot that sanyasis wear by Shankaracharya!!

So, a sanyasis renouncing his clothes is not only ok but a sign of supreme renunciation in hinduism.
