Breaking radio silence to address people tripping over each other over SURA AL-BAQRA
Zeemax Sahib stated:
{"Yes i said that because you have to read the entire Surah Baqra to get to the point made"}
Of course Zeemax is right about the relevance of Sura Baqra - DUH! It refers to the Baqra or Calf that the Israelites attempted to worship when Moses went up to the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments. The Israelites asked Aaron, the brother of Moses, to build them a golden calf that they could worship like "normal" people. So, Zeemax is right in stating that the SURA BAQRA refers to Israelites.
But, as in most Suras of the Holy Koran, there is an anecdote about some event in the past with a lesson/consequence resulting for those who lived through the period. This lesson is for the benefit of those who are the real audience of the Holy Koran - Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and his followers. So, yes "no compulsion in religion" is applicable to Muslims.
Now, go back to your excellent discussion - and do that without sounding like a stupid person more concerned about what people wear.
