Could Have Been Beautiful

Arms in arms, lie dormant,
two shadows at the horizen.
It may be two jocund lovers
embracing blissful youth..
Or a dear one departing
holding hope in arms..
Or a few strokes of color
across a cloudy skyline..
Merely an artist’s imagery
melting drop by drop...
Tattered at the seams,
a draping veil of light..
Or something more enchanting
to take my breath away..
A maiden’s blush, for instance
at her first admiration.
Something soft and poetic
-the thought a mere obsession!
for closer observation
made my lips go dry..
Vivid against the dusky canvas,
a wretched, lame woman
alone with her miseries.
Swaying, tangled hair
curl upon a sweating brow.
Shrieking at every step
the blisters of her feet.
Hardened, hopeless eyes
virtually mocking life itself.
To a destination unknown
there goes the carcass of humanity!
and I, too the culprit
for my words exhault only beauty!
If it was a little less painful
it could’ve been beautiful!
