Personalized Islam - it does make sense

As usual, you have asked a very good and pertinent question. Yes, this has been tried - the Bahaii faith was a result. Probably the most decent, modern, and humane of all philosophies, this offshot of Shia Islam, is becoming quite popular among peace-loving individuals all over the world. I visited their wonderful Lotus Temple when I visited Delhi a few years back.
Also, some Muslims have taken another approach - individualizing Islam. I have abandoned institutional Islam for a more personalized faith. I just don’t do things that I do not agree with. Islam, as a personal religion, is pretty rational and gives one a solid base for personal principles. Having a Muslim name does become an issue, thanks to those "mainstream" Muslims who love to advertise their religion and always manage to present it in the worst light possible - all at the expense of other Muslims.
