You are saying the same thing I am ... in 1947, leading party politicians were mostly Urdu speaking and had no base in Muslim majority areas... having won elections in UP and Bombay etc... which is why it was easier to displace them... But it goes without saying that being part of the Muslim Bourgeoisie they might have sustained Pakistani constitutional politics better...
Furthermore... I made this subtle distinction earlier which you have missed: While the support for Muslim League as a party was higher amongst the Muslim middle class of UP etc, the support for Pakistan idea was strongest in Punjab, Sindh and Bengal... infact this was the reason why Muslim League adopted the Pakistan idea in 1940, after failing to win seats in Muslim Majority areas in 1937...
The Pakistan idea predates Muslim League’s and Muslim bourgeoisie’s adoption of the same... Rahmat Ali, Iqbal and Ch. Kifayer Ali were all Punjabis who had been harping about Pakistan with considerable success... way before Muslim League and the Muslim bourgeoisie from the UP saw the advantage in it.
And ... one more thing... the whole thing is equally true for the Bengalis who were the other group which like the Urdu speaking had a strong middle class...
Had- by displacing these two groups- the Punjabis thrown up leadership worth something .. maybe I’d accept your point of view... but all our ills are actually entirely because of the inherent weakness and political backwardness of Punjab.
