THE SINGER INSIDE

“God put music into my heart and a voice into my throat. I serve Him when I serve music.”

-- Lotte Lehmann

For as long as I can remember, I have been singing and writing my own songs. I never stopped, but, being a busy mother of four, life got in the way. I always tried to grab moments. Precious time. Gradually, however, I stopped listening to my inner voice, and let others dictate. It was selfish to write songs while the kitchen was a mess and the laundry piled up. I had to set aside childish things and put my family first. After all, my husband did not go out every day to a physically demanding job, in order that I play around with my piano and search for wonderful words!

Then a very dear friend came back into my life, and my world changed. He gave me gentle spiritual guidance, and I realised that without connecting to my inner voice and my musical spirituality, I could not be the woman I was meant to be.

Trust that voice. It is your intuitive path to enlightenment. Love yourself, and celebrate the wonderful woman you are. If you do, all those around you will benefit. To paraphrase Dr. Wayne Dyer, we are not what we have, what we achieve or what others think we are. We nurture the seeds of our own genius.

Love yourself, and watch that genius expand, and touch the world.

~ Christine James

“It seems to me that those songs that have been any good, I have nothing much to do with the writing of them. The words have just crawled down my sleeve and come out on the page.”

-- Joan Baez

“Singing has always seemed to me the most perfect means of expression. It is so spontaneous. And after singing, I think the violin. Since I cannot sing, I paint.”

-- Georgia O'Keeffe

“Those who want to sing will always find a song.”

-- Norwegian Proverb
