My Driving License

Posted: Dec 20, 2007 Thu 08:21 pm     Views: 189    Interacts: 0

Back in Pakistan, I was so sick of driving that when I came here, I let my husband do whole of it. Now, the time has come when there is no other choice than driving myself. So, I planned to get a license, I went to take written driving test yesterday. I drove to the facility just to have some experience. After taking the written test we thought to do some groceries. My husband let me drive and we went to this Indian Bazaar (10 miles away) and came back. Last night I told my husband that I am ready to take driving test tomorrow. He thought I am not ready because I didn't do much practice and I have not understood the rules completely. As I was insisting to take the test before holidays, we decided to have another practice drive after midnight. We drove for 1.5 hour.

Today morning we went to take test, test taker was a generous lady. Even before we drove out of parking, she said, “It seems you had been driving before”. I think it was just a nice gesture at her part to relax me. I acted passively during driving, did couple of small mistakes but didn’t lose the confidence. She took me to short route asked me to park couple of times, and that’s it. She was friendly, she even asked about traffic rules in Pakistan. I passed the test and got the license. My husband was happier than me as he was not expecting me to get a license with just a little practice. According to my lab-mates they fail you on small mistakes but even though I did couple of mistakes, I passed. I would say it was a lucky day for us.
