Largest displacement since Rwanda - the seeds of hatred in Swat

There are now statements from the UN to the affect that the number of people displaced in Swat is comparable to what happened in Rwanda since that is the last time something on this scale has happened....according to them.

A close friend who is in Peshawar right now covering the condition of the IDPs is providing some very disturbing first hand reports. LOTS of people are lying dead along the way from Swat to these locations where IDPs are being kept, many are dying every day, and they almost all feel victimized by both the state as well as those fighting the state.

Many who even own land and lived well are homeless and in a terrible situation. Statements coming from the IDPs themselves are not positive for Pakistan.....naturally they feel that the government should have acted in a manner that prevented this situation from occurring...the government has failed them. Its predictable that our enemies will now use this situation to spew propaganda to promote a greater Afghanistan at the expense of Pakistan...this is something that most Pakhtuns don't even want...only a fringe group of liberals on the American payroll. They will be promoting Pakhtun nationalism and will likely use stooges such as Pakhtoon Khan from the Front Page of Chowk.

It is incumbent upon all Pakistanis to do what they can to help the people of Swat and to express to our Pakhtun brothers how we feel about them. Let them know, make sure the lines of communication remain loud and clear and identify enemies like Pakhtoon Khan and report them to the authorites such as Press Information Department, Pemra, Intelligence Bureau and whatever other department is relevant to the case. If these government agencies dont act....make a noise about it and push this onto the blogosphere and harass that government department until they do what they are supposed to. Once the game has been set in motion and its too late, then you may as well pack up and leave because our enemies want nothing less than to split us up into camps and have us killing each other so they don't have to get their own hands dirty.
