Benazir Bhutto Assassination

Benazir Bhutto, the two-time ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, was assassinated in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007. Benazir was the first woman elected as leader of an Islamic republic. However her two terms as prime minister first in 1985 and then in 1993 both ended on charges of corruption. In Oct 2007 she returned to Pakistan after a self-imposed exile of nearly 10 years. Her tragic death 2 weeks before the scheduled elections has once again left Pakistani politics in a state of turmoil.
