Seems like SAARC countries are not yet ready for a collaboration. They lack the characteristics which would become the precursors for such a coordination.

A regional union like this is supposed to follow naturally. We have seen man`s journey towards unity from tribes to cities and to countries. The speed of this journey has been proportional to man`s civility and education. Keeping in view this trend and a few contemporary examples, we can argue that a point must come in time when such a union will be inevitable. Accepting that we are not there is the need of the hour and how and when will reach that point is the real question.

So, how and when will we reach there ?

``Pakistan wants to be open and frank in dealing with all issues while India, may be in line with Hindu mentality, wants to be secretive and confidential.``

WoW. Do tell us more about the Hindu mentality. The Editor-In-Chief of chowk.com would love it....

Is there an instance ever in the history of world, when people on top of the food-chain have done anything for the people lower down?

Most importantly, why should they? What is all the moronic discussion about? kaka is convinced that all of you have recently learnt writing and are keen to show it off..

Why can`t people fuck responsibly and be liable for their own children? All they have to do is teach them to move to the top of the chain..

Pakistan wants to go fast (head on in Shaukat Aziz’s terms) whereas India wants to go slow; step by step.

Of course Pakiland wants to go fast..It`s the party trying to change the status quo in Kashmir for the past 50+ years, without much success...

Pakistan wants to be open and frank in dealing with all issues while India,

That`s cause Pakis have deluded themselves into thinking India is about to give up any land in Kashmir...They still have ``Kashmir banega Pakiland`` dreams..

may be in line with Hindu mentality, wants to be secretive and confidential.

Bad bad bad India..how dare it refuse to give to Pakiland what Pakiland has failed to win in repeated wars and insurgencies...

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz went to Dhaka with a 7-point agenda

That`s BS..Every Paki puppet PM/military dictator only has a single point agenda...beg India to hand over Indian Kashmir on a platter..

joint projects to alleviate poverty

The easiest way to alleviate poverty is trade...And Pakiland has made it clear it won`t trade until India resolves the Kashmir dispute(which is self-deluded pakispeak for ``hands over Indian Kashmir on a platter``...

The loss is entirely Pakiland`s

That piece was already posted on unplugged and I`ve read it elsewhere..

India is coming of age as an economic power. It is also flexing its muscles as a major military power. We all know the story and the statistics. Indeed, talking to an educated Indian who wears his patriotism on his sleeve (there being no shortage of this kind because being relatively new to high-power status, Indians tend to be touchy about different aspects of their nationhood) one stands in danger of getting an earful of these statistics.

Indian quotes statistics about India doing better than Pakistan in the 15 years in which India was supposedly being bled by Pakistan...how dare he?

Isn`t it funny how Pakis are allergic to facts and statistics...especially when they show Pakiland in a poor light...

The facts are biased against Pakistan...

And Ayaz Amir getting his undies in a knot over the English media in India would be remotely interesting if Dawn didn`t have a miniscule readership compared to the Urdu rags quoted in the nuggests of the Friday Times..

The author is right - SAARC is totally useless. India should just dissolve SAARC or get out of it. Why are we wasting our time trying to form regional alliance with loser nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal? These countries will always remian in the garbage dump, while India is galloping towards economic superpower status. We should form an alliance with China and Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, who are more in our league. Those are the countries with whom we need to have free trade and economic cooperation.

We need to associate with winners, not these worthless losers in our neighborhood. Otherwise as we get richer, we will have to shoulder the burden of these beggars living around us.

`..........may be in line with Hindu mentality, wants to be secretive and confidential.`

Somebody needs to tell this duffer that by changing religion, does not change the metality.
Most of the Pakistanis are descendents of the same secretive hindus and have the same mentality.

``Pakistan wants to be open and frank in dealing with all issues while India, may be in line with Hindu mentality, wants to be secretive and confidential. ``

What is Hindu mentality?
Are Hindus monsters in Pakistani psyche?

I remember one anecdote Saed Naqvi related in his column when India Pak relations began to thaw. He was a guest in a Pakistani home along with one of his Hindu friends. One morning he was cornered by the kid of his guest who incredulously asked him, ”Why are you moving around with that man? He is a Hindu?”

Just like EU imposes conditions that countries bring their legal political and financial systems in line with EU guidelines to qualify for EU membership, similarly India must begin imposing such conditions on its neighbours as a condition for doing business with them.

That might be the way to deal with the `Muslim mentality` in operation in some of these neighbours.

(Now watch the hypocritical whiners jump on me for using exactly the words that an editor-approved author on chowk uses).

By the way...this article with the money quote `hindu mentality` was written in a supposedly mainstream magazine/newspaper in Pakistan by a supposedly mainstream and probably a so-called moderate Pakistani journalist.Says a lot about these people.

I wonder what the Editor-in-Chief of chowk has to say about it all ? The `hindu mentality` thing ? The fact that such an article gets published on chowk reveals a lot about her mentality.

Oneway out is have NonIndia SAARAC.
Meetings of two people can be useful. More than two participant meetings are useless always. As in such meetings mostly people come to conclusion that nothing can be done in this meeting and so they should have next meeting.

We are giving too much importance to India. We can other NONINDIA blocks. Pakistan , Nepal, Bangladesh can be strong block.

Really we should look westwards as people of common faith and different than hindu faith. Now famous people like EX IRP Bengali PM said about Ummah o+o+o+o=....= BIG Zero.
That is not right, there is always one ummah dominating that is Hindu Ummah. That hindu Ummah is not known like that but is reality is Hindu Ummah. So different people, langangue, creed, culture, color, food, cloth very dissimilar are commected by cocept of Ummah.

Pakistan should look and envision for United Muslims States (UMS). Our leadership has wasted time in SAARAC, there can not be Ummah of hindu India, Buddhist Lanka, Muslim IRP and BD. We can be neighbour but friendship is unislamic concept and nonworkable. If it was possible then we will have not pakistan. We should look westwestward to form great MUSLIM Block from North Africa to east west of Japan. This UMS wil have more than 63% of exportable oil in world and more army under commands than India and if armaments will out did india anytime. In UMS IRP can be leading nation due to its unique position and can act as arm of UMS. Most educated and powerful masses of people. Western desert oils of Iraq, Iran and KSA combined with manpower of IRP citizen can make miracles. Presently kashmir problem is stagnating and not necessarily in our favor. All sacrafice made for that cause have not gone anywhere and division country has occured at disadvantage.
Generals have lost faith in themselves and abandoned path of achievement than just giving concessions as people of country are ready to make sacrafice and solve problems and keep India out of misery.
Its necessary to deafeat India on battlefield and then problem will be solved as per our wishes. Then only army can regain its honor, armies regain honors by defeating enemy and putting humilating conditions or otherside not by peaceful resoutions of confidence building measures.
Otherwise we will loose like Egypt and Jordan. Both faught for PLO and were humilated and they were abandoned by PLO. Jorden lost Westbank. There is danger we may loose Kashmir and all sacrafices will go to drains. Indians have not budged on single point. What is point in talking ?. This crossing and opening of border will lead to damage to pakistan in spirit. Why not do same with all Muslim Ummah with Iran and all arab countries. We are paying for f-16, there are hundreds of F-16 with KSA, turkey, if ummah takes place all arsanel will be available against india.
The way things are going, opening railline can result in problems in Sindh as RAW agaents will use that as conduit for spy pumpings. Now some hot heads are talking about United Kashmir State. Then they will start water usage as they want and it will be detrime3ntal to water projects in our countrry.
Talking to India is waste of time instead if war preparation goes can lead to peace. It is sad they have decided to sell kashmir as they sold 3 rivers.
This concept of SAARAC is faulty , its like poison tree and it will have bitter fruits. Close this unnecessary SAARAC drama.
