Why on earth should anyone want to wear a sari on a beach, and that too hijab fashion, and that too in Australia? Unless you`re a tourist, of course, and everyone knows when you`re a tourist, and leaves you alone.
And it`s amazing how people think that Bengali literature began and ended with Tagore.
The article was great fun, and I`m sure Bengalis call for a lot of satire - but so do all communities. It`s only Bengalis who enjoy satire at their own expense - but come to think of it I`ve heard Sikhs repeat a number of Sardarji jokes too! Certainly Bengalis love to talk, and they have their icons, but their world doesn`t begin and end with Bengal, which is why they accept anything said about them, and laugh too!

nb #69,
Please be careful in Sydney especially near Bondai Beach. Don`t wear your sari in a hijab fashion ever. Happy Holidays.

Well good for them, since they therefore must have no problems. What perfect people!
Salim, I don`t have any interest in satirising and continuing to stereotype other communities-we all have our faults, and we all live in glass houses. If you really want to know, I cannot recommend Sunil Gangopadhyay`s Those Days and First Light highly enough. It`s not Tagore, sure, and I agree with you (I think) that Tagore was without peer, but he is very good. It must be Christmas!

There used to an old joke among civil servants in India - Madrasis will come up with all kinds of ideas to solve a problem. Bangalis will come up with all kinds of reasons why nothing will solve a problem. Punjabis will actually solve the problem!! :-)

What is India`s identity without Rabindranath Tagore,Amartya Sen, Sushmita Sen, Leander, Subash Chandra Bose, rassagulla and dahi mishti??

Why do you get Bengal into the picture? This is about a sportsman not contributing enough to the team. He shouldnt have been selected for the series in the first place. Get on with it and get your self a life other than dada.

#64, My reference to Tagore was to inquire why you couldn`t write an equally entertaining article about others, or were you using Tagore as an excuse for not being able to write - as Tagore was the only Bengali who could express himself effectively. Never mind. :(

Re: # 61
An article about Punjabis or Sindhis would not be a rebuttal. I am just stating the obvious fact that communities, like people, do have their favourite hobby horses.
Tagore did not write about Punjabis or Sindhis.
To the author: we usually say non-Bengalis, not abangalis in English-and come to think of it, often in Bengali.
To Yasser: pray what here reminds you of Sadna and her ilk? I am reminded of the old song that goes ``All kinds of everything reminds me of you``. It was a love song, does that matter?
To burpie: do something, anything about toilet facilities anywhere in India(not the 5 star hotels)-starting with not being able to flush in several areas in New Delhi. And here I shall rapidly end, because the state of toilets, women`s toilets in particular, (given that men can, and do, go anywhere and everwhere) is something that gets me on a soapbox, and no one should have to hear the details of dirty toilets. What`s more, Farzana may well ban me for scatology.

I would love to have bengalis show a similar passion for extending more civic amenities and toilets in each of their dilapidating small towns................I would certianly rise in support for them..................

einsteinwalla #53,
Thank you, sir, for your valiant defense of humor. :) Yes, I was trying to be funny by insinuating that the interactor, by stating that she may have to wait a long time, may have to wait for another Tagore. :) If she wanted a rebuttal any sooner, she should have written one herself.

Point taken Burpinder! Just 3 posters here didn`t get it and you`re right, I don`t owe them any explanation. .

For what its worth, Ganguly`s inclusion in Delhi- as an allrounder to boot- was shameful, but not as shameful as his exclusion in Ahmedabad. The obvious question is how can a batsman who scored around 40 runs in each innings, and was involved in crucial partnerships in both, be excluded at the expense of another who absolutely flopped?
The only thing dropping Ganguly has proved is that Sharad Pawar and his cronies are completely ham-handed at this cricket stuff, a big surprise since the wily old fox has had a really long run in politics.
Actually Pawar could do better than team up with the likes of Kiran More, whose sole claim to fame (though not a bad one to have) was that he got under the skin of Javed Miandad enough to have him jumping money-ishtyle around the crease :) Other than that, More was an average keeper his `batting skills` were just short of non-existent.

Ajay78,
If you have to keep explaining to all and sundry that it`s a satire, you obviously haven`t done a very good job of it :)
You bloody nonsense fellow, how dare you insaalt Bhest Bangaal? It is the place which has given kaalchur to India. Bokachoda shaala! Cholbe naa, cholbe naa...

It is really ``silly`` of you not to understand that the article is satire.
