anajali
tis was really one of the best short story i have read over years.
if this was a jist of ones real life then arune really would not be able to remember that she once possessed a pearl which was lost in the twirl of life .

anjali, is this partly autobiographical or entirely fiction?

Thanks for taking time out for your kind comments.
The two friends should now be in their forties.
Yes, letter writing can get boring after a while and long distance friendships are difficult to sustain especially when you do not have shared circumstances any more.
Point of this account was that if we do not nurture, strengthen and value such a friendship in time then it will become very difficult to repair things once the gulf grows too wide.
That sometimes we ignore simple human bonds as we move towards complicating our lives without realising that the two can very well co exist, and, in fact, can give strength to each other.
