Amrita,
This was a great read!! It brought back memories because 3 years back I had a torrid extra-marital affair with a coworker that lasted a year. I had been married for nearly 10 years, leading the typical New Jersey desi married life and was feeling bored. It started out innocously as lunch outings that ultimately led to her bedroom. It was very exciting at first since the deception and illicit nature of the activity gives a huge adrenalin rush - almost like a drug.
Over time, it became terrible because I liked the girl but could not leave my wife since we have a kid. My coworker was pressuring me to get a divorce and I was torn between my loyalties to my family and the fun that I was having on the side. I was lying all over the place to both sides trying to keep the affair going. It became very stressful and unpleasant. Finally it ended and I am still with my wife but it left a big scar. However, I did have some great moments and your article really jogged my memories. Thanks!!

Thanks for the belated permission... for the past few months however I have appropriated the phrase so much that people might actually associate it with me now... ;)

antamazol - thanks! i tried. :)
bjkumar - yeah, my short stories are never quite short. but this is a huge improvement on some of my other stuff, believe me.
manto - i wasnt being defensive - i was making a funny. not very well apparently. thanks for the compliment and feel free to appropriate the ``constitutional dislike`` thingy for your own use. :)
jawahara - hey thanks! i really appreciate your coming by.

Amrita, this is really quite good. Usually I find pieces with long dialog rather distracting to read and to carry it off well requires really good writing. You did it!

amrita...
No need to get defensive... I was not accusing you of plagiarising from the movie... there is no real similarity...
Its about the feeling... thats all. Your story had a feel of a screen play for an art movie like that ...
Ceteris paribus on all other issues (and mutual constitutional dislike-sorry loved that phrase too much)... you are a terrific writer... and do let me know when you publish your novel... I might buy it ..

bjkumar...
There you go putting your nose in stuff you know nothing about.
Apparently Amrita Rajan is a qualified and trained writer... I think the length was good ... very readable.
Good show.

Re: # 29 hmmmm...if there was no marriage involved, don`t tell us burpy those 300+ lbs were the reason you got ditched! :P

Ams, very nice. Something like this has **almost** happened to me, so can identify heavily with it. The only difference was there was no marriage involved, which is why I can still carry on relatively guilt-free.
Keep writin!

rajesh - hey thanks! the novel is... well, never mind. this isnt a part of it but now that you mention it - maybe with a little tweaking... ? thanks for the idea.
swarrier - haha... that would be quite a kahani mein twist wouldnt it? thank you for the kind words.
jang - you tell him! grrr.
nasah - thank you! i`m not so sure - i once took a playwriting class and my performance... well, the word ``sucky`` comes to mind. i also had the immense mis/good fortune to attend it with two guys who were absolutelu brilliant and i`ve never quite recovered from it. :) but thanks all the same.
sajal - no way! i`m in nyc too and so are quite a few chowkies, some of them quite nice. let`s meet up sometime if you`re up for it. write to me at amdesi.amfabulous@gmail.com [go ahead, laugh... its a long story]
