No echoboom, I will not deny what is a part of our religious heritage. Zoroastrians have long gone given up on this practice, however, some Parsees in India do carry on this tradition.

However, coming back to the issue at hand. It is the murderers of the citizens of Karachi and the All Tuff goonda brigade who conducted it. We have not even figured out as to why the urdu-speaking mohajirs spit Paan all over karachi. In other words, why is pichkari so common amongst these Bhayas, who came to came in the mid 1980`s.

Was peeing and pichkari the part of tahzeeb and tummadoon that these qasai are so proud of. BTW is this not ironic that these butchers are the real butchers of Karachiites.

And how unfortunate, that the victims must consider these butchers as their peers.

It is a sad time indeed for humanity not to be able to distinguish between evil and good. The All Tuff goondas and the evil that Karachi has yet to see, and then Karachiites would consider this thug as their peer.

Isn`t it the fact that when urdu was in its formative years there were masterpieces being created in Punjabi as Baba farid, Guru nanak, Bulleh shah, Waris shah were penning their epics. On the other hand sindh has a long tradition of creating literature with names like Shah Bhitai, Qazi Ayaz, Chachnama etc. So by instilling this prepostrous myth among your own people you are doing great dis-service to them while creating animosity among the rest. This goes also along the myth that the only people who are/were civilized were the urdu speaking people. This is non-sense and a chauvinist lie. If mohajirs were so civilized then what have they become after MQM?

As far as peeing is concerned, I think it is man`s God given right to pee anywhere, if public toilets are not available and as long as it is not the wall of my house.

People relieve themselves irrespective of their ethnicity openly in open air. Muzung Chungi in Lahore and area around railway station also provide passersby the same utility. Infact, i have even noticed a few peeps squatting over the pavements in the nation`s capital around G-9 sector.

As far as I know, Hakim Saeed was murdered by the MQM terrorists, because he refused to pay the monthly (or `piece of action`, as it is called by american mobsters). Hakim Sahib was also openly critical of the murderous path that Mohajirs were tking by following the MQM. Another prominent Mohajir, Mir Khalilur Rehman, the then founder and owner of Jang Group of Publications remained under death threat for quite sometime. The famous poet Raees Amrohovi was also murdered by them.

I think it is another myth created by the Urdu Chauvinists. Isn`t it true that well into 80s most of the MOhajirs had names like Babban, Shabban, Shabrati, Chutka, chutki, Ghaseeta Khan and sort. Only in 80s the names changed to altaf, aafaque, and sort. Now that it has conclusively proven that the poeple who overwhelmingly pee on the roadsides in Karachi are Laknow ke baankay and nawabzadgaan, and not dhaggas and akhrots, it is better for you to admit that this was a myth. Either it is that or behram`s sugarcane.....your choice.

Yes, you are correct, when you say that Hakim Syed of Hamdard Dawakhana and his contribution. Did you know that Hakim Sahib was our next door neighbor? My dad`s restaurant was adjacent (and still is) next to Hamdard Dawakhana, on Bunder Road. He was a close freind of my dad and used to come for a cup of tea to our restaurant.

Recently, I read an excellent ilog by Atif. I’m reproducing the second paragraph of that ilog verbatim. The only change I’ve made to it is to substitute “Muslims” in Atif’s write-up to “Mohajirs,” as in Karachi, and substituted a few words that are in italics:
