Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World

Ras -- saw it in Washington -- never mind the eyebrow raising title of the movie -- the movie is quirkily funny -- in the understated tradition of Brooksian style.....deserves three stars..:)

It seems the irony is so subtle in this movie, that mainstream American critics have missed it. Brooks means this movie to be a mirror.

That was my point. Thanks for adding it. This is hilarious - the funniest place in the Muslimm world is in India. LOL. Bollywood could transform Islam into a pleasant force. :)

A simple waste of time!

I just saw the said movie early this week at the AMC - 42nd Street, NYC. Only 10 -12 seats were occupied in the smallest theatre at the AMC. The most interesting aspect was that 80% of the audience was young women who had stopped by after work. The movie was a big disappointment and quite poorly made. Albert Brooks ` acting was fine, but there was no comedy in his delivery or his jokes. The only comedy you would sense was in the one-liners, as Ras identied in his review.

The most irritating part was Albert`s Indian assistant`s repeated emphasis on ``FANTASTIC``. It was simply stupid. Both Indians and Pakistanis(or the ones emulating to be Pakistanis) were portrayed as if they had never experienced a life outside - very naive and silly ones.

As the movie finished, I went to the front desk and asked them for a refund.

``I am sorry ma`am we do not have a policy to give refunds.``

``Since there was no comedy in the movie, therefore I decided to play a prank on you.``

I wished I had watched Nanny Mcphee :(

This movie sucked. It was not funny at all.

I think that was the point of having this silly movie. There is no concept of COMEDY in the Muslim World. And what a coincidence that the movie is in the theatres when the Cartoon Incident is well covered in the media.

An interesting movie billed as a `Comedy`` but contains almost none.

It seems that ZahraJ has hit the nail on the head here.

What a coincidence indeed!
