Every country except America and Israel are absent of opposition movements..or movements of retaliation.

Pakistan has been rendered...while shackled in the so-called war on terror..injured and buried internally as well as envisaging the neighbour`s mood which needs the flint of economic gains flowing in from the west to have them aroused.

America is yet another tool of Israel..and being used for the emancipation of the latter. Sooner or later the cracks in the structure of America would be visible. The notion that to end the deficit of the budget America goes to war and its all over. this very notion is imperial-aged..viable in vietname days.

usurping Iran is next plan, the total effect of to benefit Israel. Syria has joined the club of the Axis, along with Iran and hideously Pakistan.
Egypt too would have to forego its land to Israel to maintain the Great Leadership of revered Mubarak (Qibla o Kaaba)

I think perhaps the author should stick to writing fobby love stories - and the editors ought to encourage that.

Why are those who brandish Islam given exclusive copyright to the terms “fanatics, radicals, extremists, fundamentalists”?
[quote]

Because there is no other *international* movement today that clothes itself in the high-language of culture and religion (like your article) and at the same time openly encourages its followers to participate in brutal, violent and regressive acts. Because there is no other international movement which is so regressive and authoritarian and supremacist (not a single democracy in the middle-east, disgusting anti-jewish propaganda in every newspaper, hindus in pakistan decline from 20% to 2% in 50 years, at every step everywhere an attempt to privilege muslim traditions above others).

Get it buddy? If destroying bamiyan buddhas is OK, I dont see what the problem is drawing a few pictures of this Mohammed fellow. Where was the outrage then? Where were the howling mobs demanding that the Taliban apologize? On the contrary, there were ``religous leaders`` in fascist states like Saudi, Egypt and Pakistan ``explaining`` why it was OK.

Quoting Chomsky and Arundhati only proves that societies like USA and India are liberal and open-minded. When the day comes that you quote a Saudi Chomsky and a pakistani Arundhati, and both are alive and well in their home countries, is the day that we can have an equal discussion.

Till then, go burn the danish flag and injure your fellow citizens; all this, while your leaders grovel for EU aid and your brothers beg for EU visas.

Excellent post, pmishra2. But don`t expect Muslims to be impressed. They will find some convoluted argument to justify their hypocrisy.

A well thought out and researched article. The only people who will cry and criticize it would be the ones who do it because it fulfills their own extremist religious national identity agenda.

........ sigh ! ..... here we go again - the same old chest beating, self-pity, hand-wringing, wailing and crying without any introspection ............. holy mo of mecca !..... just look around - even a fool can tell why the muslims find themselves in the spot that they are in ....... they are different - the culture and values they espouse are totally out of sync with the twenty first century and the people of the world cannot, and should not, run the risk of allowing their insidious idelogy to fester ........ mankind has suffered enough under other totalitarian ideologies like fascism and communism .......... it is a preventive war and must be fought on all fronts .......... and of course there will be collateral damage - ghazals will be pushed to late night tv and innocent people will die ............ personally, i never cared much for ghazals ...........

yes I do consider that Mongoloid Invader of Iraq a world terrorist -- but that does not mean that you can justfy what those pathetic fundo creatures who have nothing better to do are doing all over the world against few lousy cartoons with no resemblance to mohammed who never claimed to be our God only a human being like any other human being.....

offering money to kill catoonists -- and in the process destroying our own life and property and making a fool of ourselves -- all over the world

you have to admit that in modern times as a community we look weird -- we act weird -- we have turned into an alien community from another planet -- ``totally out of sync with the twenty first century (20th, 19th, even 18th century) and the people of the world``.......

introspection....introspection....self examination as where we are headed.....

It is pertinent here to mention the drama series `The Book of Daniel` - which depicted a drug addict talking to a modern and entirely decent Jesus - taken down by NBC due to the threat of Christians to boycott its sponsors in January 2005.

And this is the same as the fatwa on Rushdie and the hit put out on the danish cartoonists how?

From the Islamic apologists play book under the chapter : Rationalization by disingenuous equivalence

substance America so vehemently accused Saddam Hussein of using against rebelling Kurds.

And I remember the vehement muslim protests against Saddam at that time...or the vehement protests against other saddam massacares...

can you imagine any public media spokesperson in Pakistan with words like these about any other religion or nation?

Jeez...you`re kidding right? This is sarcasm, right?

I think this a funny article therefore a joke will be in order

A murasala(letter) published in the paper lamented lack of Urdu understanding
in general and in youths in particular, then went on to praise
wonderful rendering of Urdu in K. Asif`s Mughal-e-Azam. He described
how even non traditional urdu speaking people showed great interest in
the movie and our tehzeeb. He said that recently he was watching
Mughal-e-Azam( digitally colored), there were two Bengalese sitting next to him watching
the movie with great interest At a point in the movie Jalalluddin Akbar declared,
``TakHliya!``
One of the lesser Bengali asked his companion, what is `TakHliya``.
Reprimanding him the greater Bengali said,`` You don`t know Takhliya? He is asking
for pillow, that`s `Takiya la` in short stupid.``

Dear writer,
Where do we go from here? What are u suggesting? Is this the time for Hamas/MMA kind of Muslim rulers? You have painted a very strong case against evil west and current Muslim leaders, but u fail to provide any solutions.

{but name one religion which does not hold such cantankerous elements –except Buddhism and Zoroastrianism.}

And why do you suppose these cantankerous elements are not present in these religions?

Could it not be the doctrine itself?

Re: # 11

Buddhism has had its share of strife. See the problems in Sri Lanka. Genghis Khan was Buddhist too.-) And don`t forget the self immolation of Thich Quang Duc in Vietnam. The Japanese were Shinto Buddhist and did commit a few war crimes..
I cannot speak for Zoroastrianism. In today`s world there are very few Zoroastrians (in comparison to other strife ridden religions) to really affect the mainstream. You need a critical mass, unemployment and idle minds, and remembrances of past grandeur or discrimination (perceived or otherwise) to generate cranks.

All religions in human hands have been capable of great good and great evil.

Re #14, ``All religions in human hands have been capable of great good and great evil``

Indeed.
And let us not forget that even without the benefit of religion humans are capable of great evil. Witness the great wars of the 20th century.
