Edward Manet`s ``Luncheon on the Grass`` did create a bit of controversy in Paris, but the reason was not entirely Nudes. Nudes were acceptable form of paintings even in those days provided done in formal pose making the whole thing look artificial.. Luncheon on the Grass`` had a nude shown in more realistic situation. By the way there is only one nude woman, the other one is not nude but attired flimsily.

The aura of mystique surrounding Nudes is our own making. The more we are inhibited about it the more magical and mysterious it will seem. Critically, Nudes by various painters are no more or no less emotionally exhilarating than any ‘Still life’ paintings. Paul Cezanne arguably the best of Impressionist and credited with first simplification of form into geometric distortion, hardly painted Nudes. His ‘Still Life’ paintings the most endearing works of art just as Van Gogh’s works are so expressive.

Our fascination and undue importance to Nudes is absolutely misplaced

#8 good site..but could not see any pics. i checked clubs and they seem to have two music clubs ``eastern`` and ``western``. offcourse by eastern they mean indian :-).. teaches tabla etc.. but naming it indian music clubs would be a no-starter. they could have called it hindustani perhaps.

If one refreshes the NCA intro page... a new picture of the lawns comes up.. and there are atleast 2 or 3 nude sculptures... with one on the tree of a couple french kissing.

Also.. the inscription in Urdu is Hafez`s poetry I believe ... and not some religious verse as Indians would jumpt to believe.

Pakistanis can barely tolerate Pizza Huts and KFC restaurants, let alone nude art!! What nonsense.

MANTOLIVES..
art never dies..it stays in the air in the culture..in the veins..its to stay there..the very picture of mind is brought out..

be it any era..post 1977 or pre-1945..art has been discrete enough to be changing with the changing facets of events which greatly influenced man..and his survival..

art is you..and me..the thing is the expression needed to suit it and justice be done..

Majumdar...

Try : http://www.nca.edu.pk/

Nasah..

When you`ve established yourself as a balanced operator... why tarnish your reputation by making idiotic statements? Are all Pakistani women in Burqahs? If you were to visit NCA ... you would see that the reality is very different...

Re: # 3

It is art covered in a Black shroud.

Ironically so is the Kaaba.

Nudity is the most basic, yet the most pristine state of humanity.
Nude, we are as we truly are meant to be. The Nude body is a marvel of beauty and grace, no matter what its shape, age, size or gender. In its depiction in art, it can be cherubic, nymphic, titanic, realistic or rubenesque.

Why do artists paint nudity? Why did Matisse paint the odalisque?

What inspired Gaugin to paint the Tahitian beauties?

Why did the temple sculptors of Ancient India carve the nude male and female figures into stone?

Why the sculptures at Khajuraho speak to us?

Why is Da Vinci`s David nude?

What emotions arise in us when we view nudity in art and scupture?

What do we see, when we see ourselves depicted in art?
