Saminasha is a very nasty woman abuser with cut and paste always. She never got published anywhere on chowk Front Page except for Once with only 50 responses and most of them were from herself and from her other multi nicks. I once respected her for her few ideas,but, I feel sorry for myself now, she has proven her self to be the biggest plagiarist and queen cut and paste. Not only that she tortures everyone on chowk. She is 12 head of chowk.

Wow, grown-up engaging in flamewars! They blame children for plagiarism. Zeena and pokershark can eat their hearts out, atleast Samina Sha gets published.

After a third look at this piece, the following questions emerged:

1. Is the writer addressing universities in Pakistan, North America or both? Can the claim that universities globally are experiencing the same ``issues`` that the writer laments?

I ask this because the writer has not acknowledge the most basic reality of knowledge making: that knowledge making occurs as a continual discourse. The concepts and theories that comprise a field are in constant evolution because the nature of scholarly inquiry is based on the interrogation and exploration of these concepts. New knowledge draws upon the findings of the past and builds upon those findings. For example, I can`t just create a theory out of thin air.

However, in order to possess some command of the field in which I am studying, it IS encumbant on me as a student, instructor or professor to know this field. Knowledge of this field can take many shapes and forms; for example, the most conventional way to analyse literature was to do a close reading. This particularly methodology valued careful attention to the themes and language of the text. Over the past two hundred years, the methodologies of analysing a text are multiple and each yields a different engagement with the text and a different result. In the US, the most exciting movement in academia is one towards interdiscplinariness; looking at text from various field intersections. To extend the example of literature, one might use concepts from the fields of Women Studies, Economics, Political Science and Post Colonialism when interpreting A. Roy`s The God of Small Things. Or one might study literacy and gender in Kerala. The possibilities are endless. These interdiscplinary intersections also occur with methodology; new research encourages the usage of the modes traditionally the domains of ``other fields``. The goals of expanding methodologies are to develop a deeper and more varied understanding of the subject. The comments of ``Sadia`` seem a little jaded; why is her prof. assigning the kinds of projects she/he is? What is the purpose? In my opinion, it is Sadia`s responsibility to be able to answer these questions.

This is possibly one of the most hamhanded discussions of plagiarism I`ve had the pleasure (and I mean that in a perverse way) to read.

I`m going to summarize the main points of this piece so that the logic of the thesis and supporting evidence can be evaluated:

Mr. Memon claims that knowledge making systems are being threatened by plagiarism. Contemporary plagiarism is no longer merely perpetuated by the more conventional culprits, student. According the author of this piece, academia is now part of the problem; instructors in MA and PhD programs are the new criminals. For reasons that are not explicated, the author claims that unlike professors in the past who took the time to teach their students course material (from text to lesson plan to test), this generation of academia chooses to rely on material that has been interpreted by other sources. (Why these sources should not be considered capable of providing a secondary analysis is not explained.) Professors don`t competently perform the work they are paid to complete because they are more interested in making money and running their classes to accomodate their own interests.

Somehow, for reasons unexplained, universities just go along with these interests. Research consists of using students as test subjects and teaching consists of haphazardly graded student work. Students are encouraged to follow projects that are themselves departmental themes and ideas. Finally, students comply with plagiarism and currying favor with professors so that they will get good grades. The author calls for transparency of teaching methodologies and practices in the university system.


As someone who actually teaches at a university, this description seems inaccurate for about an overwhelming majority of both teachers and students. My comments will follow.

Sound advice. Pakistan is not alone in this lapse of responsibility on the part of those ``inept and sleazy individuals`` whose profession is ostensibly to ``educate.`` Even in America, there are institutions of mediocre ``learning,`` such as one notorious one in the Bronx, where at least one of these so-called ``educators`` spends her valuable time in mostly extra-curricular activities. These include surfing, loitering, and drumming up false allegations of plagiarism, motivated by pure jealousy against young, first-time writers. Such actions by academicians are tantamount to a violation of public trust and a waste of public funds and charitable contributions.
Thank you for highlighting this regrettable curse.

you need to pass this through a ``simple language`` engine. It would have sorted outed the complex words, phrases, sentences etc. I however I agree with the articles contents. Make a good read and carries some punch. I particularly liked this
