[...We can do anything. We can just pay a little money to some black guys in New York and get people killed there....]
Well - the paki is just being a paki.... reminds me of that episode of Law&Order - some japanese guy uses the ``black guy in New York`` excuse to get away murdering his wife....:)

check out the home comforts available to 2 out of 3 women residents of a country that spends US$20bn on defence

...But for the residents of Bells Colony, a slum in southern India, it is a daily battle. The main enemy is the pig. The colony has no latrines, and so every morning the slum-dwellers troop off into the dense green thornbushes to relieve themselves. This is not a pleasant experience. The pigs flourish amid the excrement, and have been known to attack small children. Then there are the snakes. ``There are lots of them lurking in the bushes. You have to make sure they don`t bite you,`` one slum-dweller, Mrs Valli, explained.

If all the countries in the world have their armies, Pakistani army has its own country!!

masadi #35 so anyone who disagrees with you is a CIA agent. ha! ha!
#54 Posted by tahmed32 on April 4, 2006 10:13:10 am
masadi: btw, hope you dont mind the ``dead mule`` analogy - but that is what you remind me of when you ignore what is being said and ``stay on course`` , regardless of the fact that the course you are on is so narrowly defined that it fails to provide even an approximation of reality

faisaluno #44 agree that we need a strong defense. but that does not mean throwing dollars at the problem. rather it means having an effective defense strategy - pakistan already has an effective defense due to nuclear weapons and missiles/subs to deliver them.
We dont need to spend money on maitaining a large conventional army - even a major secessionist movement like the one in baluchistan or a terrorist movement like the one in waziristan is in fact readily controlled with 20-30,000 men and control of the air. So why do we need 500,000 men in uniform? plus paramilitaries and so forth?
The proper strategy for the security of pakistan and pakistanis is: nuclear deterrent + economic progress + mending fences with India (the traditionally hostile neighbor). To its credit, the musharaff government is persuing all of these. However, by maintaining a large conventional army (not needed in this equation), he is reducing funds available for education and the social sectors.

Gull Rukh Khan {``Since 1971 (or was it 1965), for the very first time Pakistan Air Force jet fighters and Pakistan army gunship helicopters are in action. In real. They are flying strike missions, pounding targets, carpet bombing, and taking out hostile elements in droves. In short, aerial and ground attacks are nowadays routine matter. Wow!``}
Khan Sahib,
A very painful article full of well-deserved sarcasm and venom spurting out like a volcano of disgust. Isn`t it wonderful to see our glorious air force in action, unmatched by opposing wings in the sky? I heard that our skies are safe enough to deploy female pilots in metallic hijabs.
One thing that this stupid military has done quite well is to unify the other three provinces and even AK and Gilgit/Baltistan against Islamabad. Thank you for more than exposing this facade of a government, you actually managed to clip their wings all the while laughing and crying at the sorry state of affairs at the top. It`s funny how this military manages to win battles and inflict casualties. It`s a crying shame that the military is ours and the casualties are us. As someone said once - ``We have met the enemy and it is us.``

Salim: I beg to differ with what you write - for reasons provided in #28. What do you say to that??
#58 Posted by dullabhatti on April 4, 2006 10:50:12 am
well..article is mostly emotional outburst of a pained heart...not much analysis and no solutions provided but most accusations on the army junta are probably correct if not in full at least partly. you can`t expect people with absolute power to stay normal for too long.

ranjit #1 {``The most important reform should be that instead of having 1 army chief who is supreme, have a committee or multiple heads who act as checks and balances to avoid dictatorial ambitions in the future. ``}
Ranjit,
I agree with all of your post except for this suggestion of having a committee or multiple heads. My friend, these guys are so clever and so ``selfless,`` that for the common good, they will sacrifice personal gain and appoint (elect! LOL) one of their own to act as El Supremo. They may not know how to coordinate their actions on the battlefield, but at the feeding trough, these pigs know how to behave. :)

Tahmed Sahib,
Yes I had already read your post #28 and you have a good point about the 4 year civil war in the US. The key difference is that the North and South were both democracies (at least for white people) and it was a genuine war for the preservation of the Union, not the welfare of Burnsides, Meade, and Grant. To Mr. Lincoln, his generals were disposable, as he shuffled around the top job among several ones to attain that elusive knock-out punch that Grant ultimately delivered. Additionally, the war was fought with conscripted troops on both sides - there was no professional army fighting to maintain its domination over the nation.
By the way, Sherman may be hero to many, but in Atlanta his name is considered worse than Benedict Arnold`s. :)

an army pitted against its own country.........offending instead of defending its own people.......destructing instead of constructing its own democratic institutions......over lording instead of serving under the civilians.... deliberately destroying the civilian leadership of its own country -- leaving it as an awkward pariah -- to fare uncomfortably in an overwhelmingly Civilian Ruled world......
.....The Pak army makes sure that no civilian leader of any worth and any World Standing will EVER emerge from Pakistan.....to sit with the world leaders as equals -- abroad -- and that Civilian will EVER oversee the Pakistan army with checks and balances -- at home...
......leaving the field entirely to a cabal of uniformed peacocks of GHQ strutting on the world`s stage as snake-oil messiahs -- while working part-time as the Dedicated Drill Sergeants – for their Pay Masters and Benefactors -- the ever obliging CIVILIAN LEADERS of the Civilian-Ruled West.....
thus….the only Civilian Control the brave Pakistan army will accept is by the Civilian Leaders of the West -- NOT by the Civilian Leaders of their own country -- once fondly called Jinnah`s Pakistan....
so.....what can one say about this amazing army except a miserable pathetic army of a miserable pathetic country....

Nasha,
Touche. How accurate and how cruel of you. :)
This was simply too far above mediocrity to pass up. In fact, it was short, clean, to the point. Simply summarized as TALENTED. :)

Much as I`ld like to defend my army, I have no choice but to agree with this.
