funny... yet another delusional socialist ol`timer looking for ``party`` undertones in otherwise completely innocuous occurences and works of art... ``in say nain`` was a ``passionate`` comment ``upon the pragmatism and deceiving ways of modern capitalist system``; gimme a freakin break! It`s funny you know, but you really need to get off whatever it is you`ve been smoking. Newsflash; socialism is dead; it was a failed experiment! Time ripped even its shreds into a million pieces, cremated the remains and flushed the ashes down the toilet of history. There, gone.

Wake up comrade; the world has moved on while you were asleep!

Another one for the music section:

http://www.peace-not-war.org/Music/DJDisOrientalist/index.html

This is a very interesting Urdu spoken word piece with a strong political message. I hate all those cheap DJ remixes out there but this mix is really unique and shows that music with creativity and consciousness is still possible and is still being produced in every genre. Perhaps the message is being lost in the haystack of commercialism, as our senses get saturated by more and more media outlets sprouting up in Pakistan every day.

The animals are trying to meddle with a saucerful of secrets, while the left appears to be right.

Excellanto. This was pretty good. Nadeem you do have a knack of bringing all the right but hidden things into light. Certianly one of your finest articles as far as I am concerned.

i agree wid NFP in the observation tat the liberals hav failed to understand the socio-political milieu of Pakistani society.

liberal ``intellectuals`` are much 2 busy to strengthen their ``intellectual exclusivity`` on the masses to do sumthing constructive.

NFP , you make a valid argument, and yet, arent those whom you ask to make a dent in the numbness of consciousness of the people, a part of the society that has become depoliticised beyond hope?Perhaps, it is time , ordinary people begin to question the order of things instead of waiting for the bards and the intellectuals to rise to the occasion.

is the last part really NFP or somebody else wrote on his behalf (without him knowing it)...

i wonder how amazed all these musicians will be when they are told that all those songs that they wrote ``just-like-that`` had so much meaning in them.... or maybe it`s just me who`s a tad too naïve

Watched Tapish on VCR in the late 1980s and early 1990s when PTV dramas were all the rage in India. Was very good. If I remember correct it was based in Karachi against the backdrop of political violence. Also liked Dhoop Kinare, Ankaheen but I guess they were more about day to day life rather than political statement. Are the stars of these dramas still around.

Regards

NFP your ignorance is as ridiculous and laughable as your pretentiousness.

About In Say Nain Mila Kar Daikho you write:

``This song is an early example, passionately commenting upon the pragmatism and deceiving ways of modern capitalist system.``

This is an old song, sung originally by Madam Noor Jehan for a film and the film was not about the Bolshevik revolution. It was a romantic song...pure and simple. You obviuously didnt know this.

....commenting upon the pragmatism and deceiving ways of modern capitalist system... LOL.

You like to use big words and labels which mean nothing....say obscure things....put high randomly throw your personal opinions around as if you are an authority on the subject......write meaningless gibberish claiming it to be a novel in some hip technique for want of a story to tell.... (no surprise there are takers here for that sort of thing).

Come on man. Move beyond your university years and write sense if you must write.

Dear NFP....

Very inspiring ... the first few paragraphs...You have just delivered your swansong to the conservatism ... and I have several proposals in this regard.... which we might at some later date share with each other... I hope.

Nadeem apart from watching you on GEO and reading your stuff on chowk , I don`t really know you but
isn`t it time you write about sometthing else and move beyond ratings & discussing pre-zia era - post zia era.
about your article you missed some good dramas such as:
. Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Per ( in late 60`s ) -
. Ghulam Moiuddin Show - discussed topics boldly
- Sunhairay Din - reflected human side of army life
- Chand Gharan - showed feudal culture
- Marvi - reflected feudal culture & age-old traditions
- Hawayaan- showed how laws can be broken by elite
- Duhaan - don`t know what really was that about but was good
and the list goes on ...

I remember about Jazba ( s ) , Jagoo song , it was a great song ; one of the very few songs I still remember
somehow all this is past , now the present & future is lot more money-oriented ; resulting in
cheap soap-operas & 30 min. skits from the likes of faisal quershi & manni stuff... gone are
the days when someone actually experiment the reason being simple - private productions are
unwilling to take any sort of risks ..
faisal , it would be intresting if someone in Pakistan are in a process of making a
`reality show` like big brother or a game show like `deal or no deal` ..
Ali

``Patli Gali aur Raja Jaani ki Gol Dunya``

Or did you mean: PEELI PATI aur Raja Jaani ke Gol Duniya?
