..... bharath mian,
...... you really need to stop worrying - starbucks is actually considering opening up a store in bangalore even though it is highly unlikely that a bania will spend three bucks for a cup of coffee without breaking into a sweat and breaking out the old abacus ..........
........... and by the way, i meant my earlier post to be a compliment to the enterprising hindoo billionaires as horrible as they might be .......... actually, if i am not mistaken, azim premji is not a hindoo even though he behaves like one by driving around in a ten year old beige toyota corolla and wearing those big-toe-in-strap chappals ............ unlike their tight fisted hindoo cousins, muslims, specially the loud big-mouth punjabi variety, will make great capitalists once they can get their heads out of dark and smelly places ....... i bet starbucks can open up a dozen stores in lahore in no time at all - just look at how the more proletariat dunkin donuts have done !

``Some people make cars..while others blow them up``
``A country with a per capita GDP of $22K.year in 1982 has a per capita GDP of roughly $16k while holding the largest OIl reserves in the world``
``A tiny country like Israel has 5000 times as many patents per capita than the entire muslim world combined``
``No other country combines capital/innovation/human resources better than America-three critical attributesto growth``
What the author is railing against is not really America..it is the fact that the muslim world is being left behind in dust by everyother group of people in the world. And for the knucklehead who referenced a sura fromthe koran, i.e. advice on the human condition from a Camel`s guide to the Galaxy from the 7th century..75% of the global GDP in 20 years due to innovation, automation and globalization will be financial services. So instead of railing against bankers and financiers....who will be either trading what is produced be machines or creating derivatives for trading what is produced by machines. make sure you kid goes to a tier-1 school, gets a bachelors degree in Chemistry and an MBA and can speak fluent English, Mandarin or Hindi. Otherwise..he will be writing shitty articles like his parent. assalamvalleycum!!!

Dear writer,
Imagine a world without capitalism, what would it look like? A hypothetical argument, surely as sound as your diatribe targeting capitalism and western hegemony. A world without capitalism would have crumbled in poverty, famines, diseases, genocides and civilization degenerating into its primordial state. Internet, cloning, space travel are just a few examples of success achieved by human ingenuity financed by capitalistic dollars.
Human beings have a innate ability to survive by adapting themselves to changed circumstances, therefore your pessimistic view on asian success in western countries makes no sense and exposes your narrow vision of life. Humanity has been migrating for centuries from one region tp another, sometimes by choice any many a time thru eviction. Were they also selling their souls? Blaming others and shifting responsibility does not solve problems, we have corrupt leaders, decaying systems and lack of vision which prevents any development. This does not absolve western atrocities, yet it has been their success in science and technology which we so dearly yearn. Had it not been western demand for oil, many of the mulsim states would still be riding camels living in deserts with hands begging for foreign aid.

bharath,
``Hindus are stingy and Muslims are not.!!...`` ........ stop getting your dhoti all tied up in knots ........ actually a high savings rate (like the chinese) is an advantage in that it provides the capital for economic growth ...... maybe the muslims are not doing as well because they spend all their money on lattes - ever thought of that ?
......... there is nothing racial about it ..... why are you madrasis so defensive? ....... you dind`t hear any punjabi complain about being a loud big-mouth with his head stuck in a dark and smelly place, did you ?.............. maybe punjabis are secure in their ignorance ...... but being a little insecure is good because it makes you work harder to prove yourself even though the whining and not picking up the tab once in a while does get a little annoying after a while ..........
..... maybe the problem lies with the rigorous math taught at the iit`s ..... here is how punjab university math goes : you get the bill, there are five of you, so you add a twenty percent tip (more if the waitress is cute), round it up to the nearest ten and then divide it by five............
...... now, here is how iit kanpur math works: you spend twenty minutes adding up who had what, then another half an hour telling each other how at such and such bar drinks are a buck less, and then discussing the margin that bars make on liquor and how cousin pavan kumar can buy wine at wholesale prices ............... and to top it all, you want to leave the lovely waitress only a fifteen percent tip inspite of the fact that you have been peaking down her blouse all evening ! ............
............ i lguess the moral of the story is : too much math is bad

Hamid, while I am with you onmostof the points, this one is a bit silly `` actually a high savings rate (like the chinese) is an advantage in that it provides the capital for economic growth `` Actually an obscenely high savings rate works against reinvestment of capital in spurring domestic led growth.

Are cell phones taken as the universal indicator of a country`s standard of living and what is their distribution in a population compared to the inadequacy of nutrition and health care in a given society, these are questions that dimwits like you seldom think about and don`t have brains enough to consider.

Ad Hominem nonsense that I have answered for idiots like hamidm and his pals a dozen times over, just go back and check the posts. Do you own a passport, pay taxes, vote, have a drivers license, teaching community college license etc etc..if you do any of these things and you believe in the above, please go and kill yourself asap. Or just admit you are living a lie. but suicide is still an option. I urge you to belive in yourself.

Re: # 63
> India`s poor is poorer than it was 50 years ago ...
nasah,
i don`t know how u arrived at this - but let me tell u about the one person that i know very well.
Myself.
Dad was a lab-assistant in one of the hi-fi schools in delhi. I was lucky enough to actually
study in that school because I happened to be what is normally called a ``staff child``. In practical
terms , this means I studied almost free. Luckily for me, just about when I was entering the
job market - the reforms started in 1991 had become quite mature. Once done with the education, I was able to
`better my lot` without any sifarish - quotas - bribery etc. Now till date
I have NEVER lived in a house of my own. I, sala, don`t even know what it feels like to go
in the evening to your own home. Since as far back as I remember we had always
lived in a rented place. But today - I have got my own home (yet to move in), and
I will be wrapping up the payments on loan by this years` end (hopefully).
Without these very reforms, I know exactly what were my chances of accomplishing all this.
I would have been just another statistic on the number of unemployed in a basket-case called
India. Yeah, the leftists and commies would have surely sympathised with me and might even help
me get a job in the yarn factory in the backwaters of calcutta (if I`d make the proper payments to the proper people) .... and that is
the best case scenario for millions of us aam folks.
I am the living/writing/talking example of India`s poor having improved their lot.
Can you even feel what the atmosphere in India is today - its not overall the same but there are
large pockets of hope. And hope is the elixir of life. Yeah sure there are large pockets of despair but if anything,
there sizes are only shrinking. It just continues to amaze one that leftists and thier buddies like
moslems would want to undo the reforms - but then , I guess, it makes sense too.
Do you have any statistics that say that farmers in heavy debt were NOT commiting suicide 20 years ago. Tell
me the ratio of these suicides with total population also. Now tell me
the current proportion also. Lets talk numbers here. If you wish, we will also discuss the
alternate scenarios had the reforms not taken place.
There is a community of ppl in Bihar that are called musahars because they eat mice to survive.
Is their poverty induced by the reforms ? Or is it something that has not been alleviated by the reforms ? It was always there.
AFAIK this name of the community is not a recent phenomenon.
I am done with the rant. For now.
> barath [to hamidm2] ....You bigot....
barath, as far as I cud make sense from hamid`s post he was just giving examples of India
and china to his fellow specimen.
I dunno how long u hv been on this forum - but hamid is not a bigot, for sure. He has what
do u call it - Islamic ego (?) - but it is more driven by a desire to improve and/or beat some
sense into his own kind. It is not directed towards pulling down horrible hinuds. At least not
usually.
As for the bigots - u will find quite a few of them here - just wait... There was even one guy
who claimed he was not of indian descent but his ancestors came from samarkand. And
then arjun posted his snap on the next message :) .. I forget the guys name ...
So just stick around - and you will find quite a few jokers / bigots / freuds / wise guys and what
have you ....
just sit back and enjoy !
Its raining here in chicago and I guess I will go out and have some fun ....

Re: # 78: Actually, it is probably better if the investment is in starbucks rather than the stockmarket. Capital gains are personal, spending on latte`s trickle down through surplus spending within the domestic economy.
