Dear Hamid:
You are forgetting that the real owners of tea shops in south Asa are the Iranians. Now, if someone can get those rascals organized, I am sure that Starbucks would have a tough time. Why, even Starbucks has started selling ``chai``.
Personally, I do see some hope for the capitalist Iranian restaurateur to win over Starbucks, because after all the national pride of India has to be Tea, and not some coco infested coffee. BTW, do you realize that coffee was some Bedouin invention in that desert of the middle east?
Respectfully submitted,

Dear bbabu:
{Doctors in USA do not have unions.} Yes, they do. You may not be familiar with this latest development. Please go check it out
{For all their faults Corporations are a big improvement over family owned enterprises.}
Agreed, only to the economic and social benefit. But, they should not be confused with capitalism. A capitalist truly knows how to generate capital, whereas a coporatist is an employee of the shareholders.
These rascal corporatists have truly destroyed the USA with their shenanigans.
And I am surprised that of all people masadi does not get it.
{heck with all this economic mumbo-jumbo, i am getting a triple shot of espresso in my latte tomorrow morning and see if it trickles down to me by lunch ...........}
Hamid, I suppose you think coffee is better than chai.
Respectfully submitted,

Ok, now that we had the US vs. the Commie/Islamic tete a tete lets look at the fudamentals of thisauthors thesis.
``The United States has now accrued a federal government debt of $8.2 trillion..... Who in the world is lending Uncle Sam all that money? ``
Accrued..yes accrued...accrual accounting vs. cash accounting. Balace sheet vs. cash flow. People are lending uncle sam the money because the fundamentals of the US economy to leverage its growth and have the cash to pay for it are strong. When an economy is the size of the US, it can wipe out the deficit over a short period of time much easily than a country like China which has NPL`s=GDP, as an example.
People are lending money to the US because the returns are greater and safer than any other place in the world. Simple as that...

SR,
...... since you are a serioius person this has got me really worried - a lot more than the islamist kooks who think 911 was a conspiracy hatched by cheney and his lesbian daughter to take over all the oil in the middle east ...........
...... so, you are saying that the current us trade deficit with china is all part of the conspiracy by the evil empire to steal (tax, you call it ) money from the rest of the world ? ....... i am not a cerebral economist, but if that is what you are saying, i must say it is one hell of a devlish scheme ! ...........
.... to help me understand this, how much money did the us owe the countries that it defaulted on in 1970 ?........ what was the dollars value on Aug 14 and then on aug 16 - how much wealth did the poor colonies loose ? ...........what prevents the chinese from dumping their dollars in the china sea or buying up all the coffee in the world ? ( i read somewhere that they are buying gold like crazy) .........
.......... most importantly, when the us defaults and files for bankruptcy on Oct 21, 2009 will starbucks still be open ?

I thought you knew that I agreed with you on this, not only have they destroyed the US, they are busy destroying the world. Where we disagree is that you want to seperate the political institution in the US from the economic (dominated by the corporate elite) when the package cannot be seperated: the same cronies roam around and dominate both, moving back and forth by fact and proxy from one to the other. We also differ on your utopian version of capitalism which does not exist and cannot exist without socialistic interventionism to keep the consolidating tendency of big capital at bay.

masadi,
...... if you are so concerned that america is on the verge of destruction and since we have already established that you ``are free to roam`` the world, then what is keeping you here ?......... now please don`t tell me that you are on a mission from god to ``save`` the american people ........... if you are you will have to get in line behind franky graham, the rev jerry falwell, deepak chopra and mr. ahmedenijad who recently delivered an eighteen page sermon to the mr bush ............ i guess he was not aware of the fact that george already talks to a ``higher god`` ....
...... but do you really think bill and melinda gates are spending their money on trying to eradicate malaria just so that microsoft can sell more copies of windows to the third world ?

misery loves company .....
....... commies, islamists, conspiracy theorists and other asoorted fruits and nuts are not restricted to the chowk .... the bbc reports on the nuttiest fruit alive :
Mr Chavez, on a two-day trip to the UK, called for a socialist new world order and said nations were cowards for not standing up to the ``American empire``.
Mr Chavez said capitalism was a ``destructive`` system and that ``socialism is the way forward``.
Mr Chavez called unrestricted free trade ``a trap by the world`s most powerful so they can keep the weakest in slavery``.

Its good that Zeemax & SR are on board here. Could the gentlemen give me their candid report on the development of the e-dinar & gold currency against the U.S dollar, not as a forecast but as it is already making a significant impact, if at all?
Also, their opinion on how could the U.S react , when push comes to shove, to prevent the havoc & possibly the civil war that might ensue in the U.S? Would she be able to muster any allies on this front?

Enter the Islamic dinar (gold) and dirham (silver) coin. Taken the size of the Islamic world population and their significant financial resources, we now have in place a major force to precipitate the erosion of paper currencies. Also, and of equal importance, is the fact that on 7/8/2003, China opened their silver market to all of its citizens.

`` Remember the point being debated is whether India`s handful of billionaires is a true marker of economic prosperity for the common man. Whereas I accept that Indian macro- prosperity has moved forward ($330.6 billion GNI 1990, $571.3 in 2003) the question is how much of this gets through to the common man. The indications of left wing electoral success ie Congress`s elections and the communist continuing hold in Bengal and winning of Kerala indicate a left leaning trend. I accept that elections are black and white results of complex interacting and underlying realities viz. alliances, ideologies, foreign policies etc. but to claim that the election trends have nothing whatsoever to do with the economy is to live in a fanatasy world. Everybody knows what the communists stand for and that Congress is left-wing. At least the 2004 election was a body blow to the BJPs campaign of `India Shining`. The Indian electorate has itself decided on the development of a few billionaires and the development of a super class. ``
Indian economy is doing much better compared to the 1980s.
`` I have no objection if India raises its people from poverty. Any steps in this direction are to be congratulated. But the fact is that poverty is ubiquitous in India. Any visit of India will confirm that. Farmers commit suicide under strains of debt. Whole villages put themselves for sale. Do you really think that India has distributed its economic gains wisely? ``
Do you have any stats on suicides of farmer ?
Fewer people are hungry these days. It corresponds to the abundance of food.
