Wah Wah Naqshabandi Saheb,
Yours is an improvement on my bhonda attempt at translating an equally bhonda piece of peotry.
And it was not in jest only. The lines are drawn. It is time to stress the equality of all immigrants in America.
Columbus and Capt. John did not fill out immigration papers when they came. They were not finger-printed and did not respect the laws of this land at the time.
It is time for all immigrants to stress that they will not be treated second class in the land of equal opportunity. That English is not and will not be the official language of USA. There is no reason for the anthem to be in English only. That Hispanics are the future of this country. This the tide of history and no one can stop it. Just like no one could stop European immigrants while it was their time.

did anyone ever tell you that this poem is `pretty pointless` with laboriously chosen words that make it too artificial?

Shahla Wahid:
It is just for fun--and fun should it remain; this exercise of yours.
Let the Spanish speaking people do what they see fit. We are no colonialist/imperialist to meddle in their fight for freedom.
But our hearts & prayers are with the mazloom indeed!
The ``anthem`` does not deserve to be an anthem; it is situational & nothing about it is ``anthemic``. It can only be called an ``ode`` to the flag...which it is aptly titled.
My attempt:
Kya tuum ney bhee daikhaa voh subah subha nazaraa
Voh jis ko sur-e shaam thha hUm sub ney pukaraa
Jub jang meiN ubbhray kayee taaray kayee dhaaray
Raushan thhay faseeloaN sey udhhar jis kay sitaaray
Rocket kee chaka-chaund, voh suurkhee, voh dhamakay
parcham kaa yeh paighaam keh voh ub bhee vahaaN thhay
Parcham kya vahaaN ub bhhee hai lehrata, butaaeN
VaaN jiss meIN Bahadur haiN, aur azaad fizaaeN
as I said: just for fun & exercise. I `feelingly know`` it can be much better.

Naqshbandi Sahib.. I agree. Have you heard La Marseillaise done in English (or Berber)?

i never thought i`d ever say that but i think i agree with Bush on this one. the US anthem is in English and should remain so. immigrants should make an effort to adapt to their country of immigration not vice-versa; if you don`t like it, leave.

this is good. since the repatriation of bihari debate is nice and settled on the board above, pakistan has a lot to offer towards how to solve immigrant issues.

Lovely, USA should follow Pakistan’s example and have it’s national anthem in Farsi so no one can understand it.
