Kaalchakra..
Well said.
Unfortunately such direct and historically accurate logic is lost on hatemongers. They forget that any and all nation states begin as ``new`` and then gain foothold as old. Heck 150 years ago ``Germany`` was an artificial state ... and Poland was divided up by many powers... Similarly - the ``historical`` Slav state (formed from the ancient bond of the ``Southern Slav`` people) is no longer in existence... Such racial logic hardly works... because where is then the ``historical`` Ottoman State now?

BJ-Echo etc...
Both of you represent the extreme opposite sides of the spectrum ... which is why you are brothers from different mothers.
Both of you rather conveniently (convenient both to Indian Nationalist Mythology and Pakistani Islamist Mythology) forgot that most of the damn mullahs were in Gandhiji`s pocket during the Pakistan movement calling the idea of Pakistan a ``secular kufr`` and a ``kemalist conspiracy`` against Islam... and calling Jinnah and Pakistan - Kafir-e-Azam and Kafiristan respectively..

``Afghanistan is a geographical and historical country.``
A very important point, in my opinion too. That`s precisely what lay behind the hallucinations in # 217.
But there is no reason why Pakistan or any other country cannot become another such historical nation, over time.

Which state of Pakistan you mean - is it pre-71 Quaid e-Aazam`s Pakistan or post-71 Bhutto`s `New Pakistan`?
Pre-71 Pakistan had failed because the majority constituting East Pakistan had opted out of Pakistan leaving the minority Province of West Pakistan to be upgraded to `New Pakistan`. Who failed then; majority or minority Pakistan?
One wonders why Pakistan has been placed one step above even of Afghanistan. We forget that Afghanistan is a geographical and historical country. It did not break up even by a long internecine war while Pakistan could not withstand a few days of war and broke up. Paradoxically (Luckily perhaps for West Pakistan) they, the Bangla Deshies, did not adopt the name of Pakistan as Mujiburrehman had come to hate the very name of `Pakistan`.

Berlin: Osama bin Laden likely is living in Pakistan, but that country`s efforts to catch him have been ``half-hearted`` so far, Afghanistan`s foreign minister was quoted as saying on Saturday.
``According to all that we know, he actually is living in Pakistan, close to the Afghan border,`` Afghan Foreign Minister Rangeen Dadfar Spanta was quoted as telling Germany`s Bild am Sonntag in a preview of an interview being published on Sunday.
``Our neighbor could surely catch him and put him on trial,`` he added, according to the newspaper.
``But attempts to do this have to our knowledge always been half-hearted.``

A country that fails to guarantee equality to its minorities is a failed country!
A country that fails to accord dignity to its women is a doubly failed country!
A country that fails to acknowledge its dead soldiers is really in the pits!!!
Read this and cry, Boomer! (From an article by the Tribune writer Girija Shankar Kaura on the Kargil conflict)
.....But in the end a great disservice was done by the Pakistani Army to not only all their countrymen but particularly to their soldiers, who were laying down lives in a war which they had no idea, ideology or purpose. They did not know as to why they were fighting. While here in India there was an outpour of emotion and solidarity, the Pakistani soldiers died an unrecognised death. They were also not given a decent burial by their own men, whereas the Indian soldiers despite knowing that these were the bodies of their enemy chose to provide them a burial. For it goes by the Indian tradition to pay respect to the dead humans, whoever he or she may be. Instead of recognising their sacrifices, the best traditions of the Armed forces, the Pakistani Army not only treated their soldiers as cannon fodder, but adamantly refused to acknowledge their presence across the LoC. Later, despite being made fully aware of the identities of their slain soldiers, it continued to turn its back on the dead. This evidently was because it would have immediately exposed the direct involvement of the Pakistani Army.
....Unable to face the humiliation inflicted by the Indian forces, Pakistan finally did acknowledge that some of the dead were their men. But then it asked India to hand over the bodies to the ICRC rather than accepting them directly. This again reflected little or no concern of Pakistan towards its own dead soldiers who will never return home to their families. In fact, by this refusal, the fate of many Pakistani soldiers will remain an unsolved mystery, a pain that will be very very hard to endure. And, the pain and agony suffered as a result by the families of these soldiers who are no more will squarely rest with the Pakistani Army......``

War games
Sir: Sunni Pakistan is currently joining Afghanistan and the US in war games titled “Inspired Gambit 2006”. However, the location of these games is yet to be disclosed. Sources state that they may be held in Sunni Pakistan in a military training area that is not along the Pak-Afghan border. These war games are the latest evidence of Sunni Pakistani support to the US in its war on terror. This is despite the fact that the US has not only criticised Sunni Pakistan for its supposedly limited role in the war but also after the US has violated Sunni Pakistani territory and bombed and killed Sunni Pakistani civilians with impunity. Rather than seeking to defend its territory and people, however, the Sunni Pakistani regime is still cooperating with the US.
All of this is against the backdrop of mounting tensions between Iran and the US. If the US decides on military action against Iran, it will once again need Sunni Pakistan’s geographical and tactical support. Our air space will be of the utmost strategic importance.
What is the true purpose of these war games? The Afghan army is already non-existent. Are these war games really designed to enhance cooperation between supposed allied armies that level accusations against one another or are they designed to further America’s plans for Iran?

Daughter barred from meeting Dr Khan
By Our Staff Reporter
ISLAMABAD, May 12: The government has barred family members of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan from visiting him, sources close to the nuclear scientist told Dawn on Friday.
The sources said that Dr Khan’s daughter, Ms Aysha Khan, was the only member in his family who had permission to see her father in what the government called ‘protective custody’. New orders have withdrawn that facility, the sources added.
Inter-Service Public Relations director-general Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan confirmed that Ms Khan had been stopped from visiting her father.
“She has been stopped for the time being for security reasons,” he said.
About the possibility of shifting Dr Khan to a ‘safe house’, Gen Sultan said it was a baseless allegation that the scientist was being sent to any such place.
Other sources, however, said that a safe house was being established in Dr Khan’s guest house located within the periphery of his residence.
Dr Khan was taken into custody on Jan 31, 2004 under the Security Act of Pakistan 1952 for allegedly transferring nuclear technology and centrifuges to foreign countries.
According to sources, maximum detention under the Security Act of Pakistan was two years. Dr Khan has been continuing under custody for two years and three months.
The foreign office recently announced that the government had closed the chapter of Dr Khan. However, he has not been released.
The sources said that Dr Khan, who turned 71 on April 1, was suffering from high blood pressure, cervical spondylosis, hernia, dental ailment and heart problems.
A senior official of the Khan Research Laboratories, Dr Farooq was detained in Nov 2003. Some of his other colleagues, Dr Nazir, Dr Mansoor, Brig (retd) Sajawal, Brig (retd) Tajwar and Maj (retd) Islam, were held on Jan 17, 2004 for debriefing.

Bank Islam, Mid-East investors start Pakistan ops
BANGKOK: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, along with four other Middle East banks and investors, have set up a bank in Pakistan to tap demand for services that comply with Muslim law.
The Karachi-based First Dawood Islamic Bank, which at end-April received approval from Pakistan’s central bank, would start offering banking services such as consumer accounts and Islamic insurance in the next six months, Bank Islam said yesterday in an e-mailed statement. The bank plans to open at least five branches in its first year.
Pakistan is pushing for a bigger role in Islamic finance and is widening access to overseas lenders offering services that comply with Shariah, the Islamic religious law that bans paying and receiving interest and prohibits investment in industries such as alcohol, tobacco and gaming.
About 97% of Pakistan’s 150 million people are Muslims. Islamic banking assets in Pakistan almost tripled to 54 billion rupees in the fiscal year ended June 30 from 18.8 billion rupees a year earlier, according to central bank data.
”This venture is a part of Bank Islam’s plans to expand to the Middle East and Asia- Pacific markets,” Bank Islam managing director Noorazman Abdul Aziz said. ”Pakistan is a key market because it is one of the fastest growing economies in that region, with huge growth potential.”
First Dawood will have initial capital of 2 billion rupees (US$33.3mil). Shareholders include Bahrain-based Unicorn Investment Bank, Bank Islam, Pakistan’s First Dawood Group and the Islamic Corp for the Development of the Private Sector, a unit of Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank.
Bank Islam will own a 25% stake in the lender. – Bloomberg

...and that in simple terms means.... this failed State Index is a cooked up one...
Just to put pressure on the ``...... poodle ......`` to do more....
