A very nice article. There is nothing constant but change.

I don`t think all Saudi`s are morons and we should not generalize. The right change no matter how small should be appreciated and written about. Because in today`s world we all need to hear and read about positive change more than ever. I hope Prince Talal`s effort leads to other people to think and act for the good of their people and the Muslims worldwide. It is an accepted fact that a lot needs to be done in Saudi Arabia but a journey of a million miles begins with the first step.

Dear all on Chowk, I enjoy reading all your posts (swear and name calling not included). But sometimes I feel that most of you have your own agendas and try to steer every issue towards it. Pls. try and discuss the issue on hand and the piece written. Pakistan, India or religion bashing is not a positive way to encourage dialogue. I believe in freedom of speech but I believe more in freedom with responsibility.

Good begining..........Yes, movies can reform the Arab world in terms of spreading the word against extreme Islamism and ensuring that the young do not get attracted to the Jehadism ........but he has to do more that this......he has to reform his own oppressive education system which aims at brainwashing the young..........he has to ensure that the state funded education system is completely reformed...........he has to stop censoring and give greate control to people.....he has to start rolling back his Islamized state into a secular state and reconcile with the fact that his family would have to give up its fiefdoms and turn towards democracy and re-distribution of its wealth............

he has a lot to do in terms of actual state of affairs..............otherwise his films would become just a propaganda machine to let his people live their fantasies on the screen............

Lahore (AsiaNews) – The move to rob a famous Christian singer in Pakistan became an attempt of forced conversion to Islam. The incident took place on 18 February in Lahore, Punjab. When he was returning home at night, the Christian, A. Nayyar, was stopped by six men who wanted to rob him. When the criminals recognized him, however, they started to beat and insult him, demanding that he recite the Salama-Tayyaba, the Islamic profession of faith.

After they robbed and injured him, the assailants fled, leaving Nayyar on the ground. Residents of the area, who had heard shouting, went to help the singer.

The singer, according to the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) – an organ of the Pakistani Church tackling human rights – has no intention of taking legal action against the as yet unidentified perpetrators. According to Waseem Muntazir, a friend of the singer, they were amateur criminals, because otherwise “they would have done much more”.

Nayyar, who performs many national songs apart from Christian lyrics, is very popular among Muslims too.

After the incident, the NCJP wrote a letter to the Religious and Minority Affairs Minister, calling on him to tackle such episodes and to seek to educate the people in religious respect. ....

Critic of Islam to quit Holland after lies are exposed

Holland`s most strident critic of Islam, the Somali-born MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali, is today expected to announce she is quitting politics and moving to America, amid allegations that she lied to gain asylum.

Miss Hirsi Ali faces penalties up to and including the potential loss of her Dutch citizenship, after a leading member of her own political party, the VVD, pledged a formal investigation of her actions.

The Dutch immigration minister, Rita Verdonk, who is running for the parliamentary leadership of the VVD, said she would order a probe of her colleague`s case, saying: ``Laws and rules are valid for everyone``.

Miss Hirsi Ali, 36, lives under constant police guard, after receiving death threats for her criticisms of the treatment of women in Islam (her own religion), a stance that won her many fans in Europe and America.

A film she scripted about abuse of women, Submission, led to the brutal murder of its director, Theo van Gogh, in 2004, by a Muslim extremist.

The MP has in fact long admitted lying to the Dutch authorities in 1992 about her name, her age, and the fact that she did not flee directly to Holland from Somalia.

She presented those omissions as necessary lies to obtain refugee status. Asylum seekers are expected to seek shelter in the first safe country they come to, and she would have been automatically deported if she had owned up to spending more than a decade outside Somalia, in Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Kenya and, briefly, Germany.

She obtained Dutch citizenship in 1997, and was elected to parliament in 2003.

However, the controversy has been stoked by a television documentary last week, which showed members of her own family striking at the very heart of her dramatic life story - her claim that she fled a forced marriage to a cousin she had never met.

Relatives, including her brother, said she had not been forced into marriage, and had nothing to fear. The documentary showed images of her family`s comfortable middle-class home in Kenya.

Miss Hirsi Ali, who cut short a book tour in America to return to Holland and address the media storm, is expected to announce she is moving to Washington DC, to take up a post at the neo-conservative think-tank, the American Enterprise Institute, the newspaper De Volkskrant reported.

Since the allegations surfaced, Miss Hirsi Ali has said she is the victim of a ``smear campaign``.
