There is always a price tag attached with empowerement. Women who are empowered knew the price they are paying for being one.

I agree that Hindi edits are pretty erudite. But check out Tehelka or at last their web site- www.tehelka.com- the content is not bad.

I thought that you would guess that Amartya Sen plagarizing his book title from my home is obviously a tongue in cheek remark. As for discovering my roots, I read as much History as I can lay my hands on but the business of discovering one`s roots is surely a never ending one !

Why do you say,``...I have sneaky feeling that the eminent writer and economist has actually plagiarized the title-..`` ?

If you have not read the book which- I am sure-, the name is misleading. Argumentative Indian does not refer to quarreling individuals. It refers to the prsence of, in India, a long extrordinary culture of dielectic, exchange of ideas in all walks of life even before the time of Buddha. For instance, Hindus attended Buddha`s teachings, listned exchanged idea and benefitted. In the great university of Nalanda, Mahayana and Hinayani Buddhists lived to gether peacefully , argued and wrote and taught their students without going to blows.

Gurus accpted their students` philosophy and points of view when found it was right. The culture continues even today. This was pretty different from what you find in the history of Semitic religions and culture where an opposing or critical view was considered heretical and was punished.-even though it has changed greatly over centuries for the good.

That is why the Hindu-Buddhistic civilization is assimilative in a true sense.

I suggest you read a bit about Indian history and try to appreciate your roots first.
