It is time that Muslims in America take their own destiny in their own individual hands and start assimilating like the rest. Stop the hijab nonsense, get rid of the beards for now (it used to be fashionable at one time, but now it reminds people of UBL), use English, and modernize your rituals. Exactly! We have had enough self-appointed apologists, spokesmen, and ``authorities`` speaking for the loyalty, sincerity, and good-intentions of American Muslims. It is about time Muslims in America take their destiny in their own hands and stop letting others make trouble for them. All Muslims have to do is to be moderate individuals, respecting each other and their non-Muslim compatriots. They should assimilate in the great melting pot and let history take its course, while they enjoy the freedoms and opportunities provided by western civilization. If living among Muslims, behaving like Muslims, and practicing the true faith were all that important, they would still be living in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, and other Muslim countries. If Islam doesn`t work in the east, it sure is not going to work in the west. There is no Muslim unity in Pakistan, why should it magically surface in the US? The best we can hope for is to attempt to put into practice the better things taught in Islam -equality, compassion, honesty, justice, moderation, love of God and more importantly, love of your fellow human beings.

I am sure that your intentions are sincere. Similarly, Professor Akbar Ahmed is trying his best to project a friendlier, nicer, gentler image of Muslims to the American public. In the process, he is able to sell his books and at the same time negate the damage done to the image of Muslims by Al Kayda, ISNA, ICNA, and CAIR. Yes, he is preferable to UBL, Zarqawi, and Fazloo. But, why do we HAVE to defend Islam and Muslims. The only ones who are really defaming Islam and putting Muslims in the worst situation in the world are other so-called Muslims, bent on destroying the last shred of decency and peace left in people`s perception of Islam.

What we Muslims need is a break - yes, an interval. We need to catch our breath without having these self-appointed messiahs making it worse for us. I have a simple request for these latter-day Amir-ul-Momineen - ``just leave us Muslims alone.`` Without these good or bad jihadists and tableeghists, we will do just fine. Perhaps they can take up collecting baseball cards, instead.

In Islamic Republic of Pakistan there will be universal health coverage for every human being, as we will get rid of foreign agents Inshallah. The Invisible Hand that decides who gets to live and who dies will be chopped off.

If Islam does not foster a welcoming and positive feelings of security, equality, hope, and righteousness among Hindus (and other non-Muslims), then it has failed and needs to be sent back to its origins - before it became the tool of selfish leaders, megalomaniacs, empire builders, nobility, warlords, and jihadist terrorists. Islam came into being for the unbelievers, the weak, the destitute, the orphans, the widows, the poor, the enslaved, and the oppressed. It was never meant to become a prevailing, dominating, suffocating, oppressing, exclusive, and enslaving monster that Muslim leaders, Muslim extremists, wahabbists, separatists, and racists have transformed it into.

The next time a Muslim extremist tells you how great his religion is, remind him to stop usurping the faith that is intended more for you than for him - he already has a guaranteed reservation in paradise with his 72 hags. Let`s take back this religion from the napak pakis - who are at the forefront of its demolition.

....... the problem, as i see it, is that muslims are just too full of themselves .......... islam is a bad religion in the sense that it doesn`t give you a break - constantly calling for allah to intervene in mundane day to day tasks, praying five times a day, fasting for a whole month, mouthing arabic inanities and so on ............ i have always maintained that namaz tamam buriyon ki jar hai so let`s start by banning public prayers and reviving disco ..........

Wud u care to comment on the recent killings of alleged blasphemers in Pakistan? Iam sure u must have read about it in the press, there were two recent cases, in one this alleged blasphemer was attacked in court premises by these deranged clerics and stabbed to death. Then, there was no cleric (mullah) willing to offer namaz e jinaza for the murdered soul. Does this mean we have too much religion in our life? Should we ban Islam? Or should we just nuke these morons? Please do educate us with your great solutions.

..... i never said that ! ........ all i ever said was that by comparison to gandhi he seems to be quite sane - it is a relative thing !

...... and the term ``horrible hindoos`` includes tamilians and madrasis too - it is not only punjabis and sindhis ! ............ actually, it also includes indian muslims (for the life of me i cannot differentiate between a muslim sideways head-wagger and a hindoo one)
