{why the first class compartments?}
The answer is very simple. Mumbai has two Trunk Rail Lines-one called Western Line and second one called Central Line. Western Line passes through affluent areas like Worli, Bandra, Santacruz etc. while the Central Line passes through Middle-class and poor areas. Further, Western Line is considered to be the life line of Mumbai whereas Central Line is its poor cousin.
The target chosen were entirely on western line shows that those responsible wanted maximum publicity. Had it occured on Central Line involving middle-class/poor people, it would not have made that much big news. First Class compartment again was to target the more affluent travellers so as to gain maximum publicity. Blast in second class compartment would not have made such a big news-it would have been thought of as a cylinder blast.
The way the attacks have been carried out shows that the group was looking for maximum publicity and that too international. And the way CNN, BBC have covered it, they have been successful.

Bombings are not new to Mumbai and will happen over and over in the future because the bombers know that they can get away with it...a people deserve the govt. they get...they deserve the security that they work for...Indians have a lackadaisical attitude towards security...they believe too much in taqdeer...look at the Israelis...they make sure that the cost of terrorism is very high for bombers...they hunt them down no matter what and make sure that the acts of the bombers have consequences for their families too by tearing down their houses...India on the other hand with its lethargic judicial system often lets perpetrators go scot free either because witnesses turn hostile or because criminals manage to escape from prisons or get exchanged for hostages...pathetic and disgusting...the Indian govt. almost went to war because the bombs hit a little too close for comfort (parliament bombs)...but when the victims are mere civilians, they will announce investigations, bench reports and what not until the bombings are all but erased from memory...in the parliament case for once, I wish the terrorists were successful and had taken all the rotten politicians with them...and as for Musharraf expressing his condolences...that has to be the biggest farce in this entire episode...this guy has cocooned Dawood Ibrahim and his gang and has the gall to talk about terrorism and condolences...everyone in Pakistan (including Herald magazine) knows that Dawood Ibrahim is in Karachi and has extensive properties there...he has a house in Defence...his daughter married Javed Miandad`s son...but still the dishonorable president claims otherwise
Everyone is condemning the bombers for the blasts in Bombay...but no one condemns the grenade attack on tourists in Kashmir just hours before...there lies the hypocrisy...it was civilians in both Kashmir and Bombay but because of political convictions, one is justifiable and the other is not....desis are disgusting

First of all it would not be fair on part of Indians here to make it a ``Hindu Alone`` Tragedy. Looking into the composition of Indian cities, such crowded places, at any time, will have 5-10% Muslims in the crowd. On the Indian TV Channels, many Muslims were seen in the hospitals and many more muslims were sending SMS Messages to their relatives that they were safe. This means that the victims included Muslims as well.
Yaar KB, this morning when I was watching the news on NDTV, I had tears in my eyes when I saw a Muslim (the skullcap indicated so) tea vendor distributing tea free to the wounded victims and their relatives. When asked by the TV correspondent as to how many had he distributed, he looked embarrassed and said he didn`t keep count because he was doing service and not business. Just goes to show that the tragedy affected everyone, and everyone did what they could to help.

Cities like Mumbai, Karachi etc can`t be brought to their knees with these terror attacks.
I, speaking on behalf of 7 Pakistanis in my office, who are all outraged at this wanton act of violence, wish to say this ... we stand with you in this war on terror and terrorists... no matter what our other disagreements and conflicts otherwise...
Mumbai Zindabad!

Ustrich2 and Ustrich32 want Musharraf to catch the perpetrators:
Musharraf has failed to catch any of the perpetrators in his own country save those who attacked him or the ones wanted by the U.S.
The guy is a dog; a pointer who is incapable of using his brain. Such is the mindset of an army person from col. & up in Pak army. One should never forget that they are the Canines from the Cantonement Kennels.
The army in Pakistan is deeply deeply in love with the land & not the nation. It loves the land because it keeps it employed. They are occupiers of this land & its resources. They run factories, banks, travel agencies, construction, pharmacies--in short any venture that can bring them easy money. THe civilians ( read slaves ) do the work; the uniformed thugs twirl the baton.
and they ask the masters : ``Sir, how am I doing`` & as long as they rent themselves out as mecenaries to the hotspots for their masters, they get the biscuits.
Hindus here know not a whit about the machinations of this juggernaut in Pakistan. Their venom has successfully been diverted towards muslims of Pakistan and everyone knows how much the debauch & drunkard Musharraf hates muslims himself.
Going after the evil ones at the top, as suggested here, has not solved the problem anywhere. The assassination of the three Gandhis has not made the Tamils, the Shiv Sena, or the Akali-Sikhs disappear. In fact it has steeled them even more; dormant they might have become.
Either one should side with ALL terrorists or side with none. Once you take sides; you are a
terrorist youtrself by default.
U.S & Imperialist powers bombed civilians during two wars (Berlin London good examples; Hiro-Naga other); Kill-Castro campaigns by US Presidents & other covert killings; Baader-Meinhoff gang red brigade , our own Tariq Ali & Iqbal Ahmed,Israel `48; Sipah-i Sahaba; MQM; Tamil-EElam; Assam Tripura Nepal.
There is no need to single out ``muslim`` criminals who themselves quite adept at killing their own. If one does that he himself is a ``terrorist-minded`` , by default.
I unequivocally condemn one every & all such crimes which results in the death of those who were most-likely not a party to any crime.
Do the UStriche2 & UStrich32 have the gall or the guts to just cut & paste the immediatley above 2 lines & redeem themselves?

Schoolboy’s search for father ends in morgue
Mumbai: “It’s papa,’’ wailed the 14-year-old boy as he rushed out of the morgue at KEM Hospital crying. His search for his father ended tragically like many others waiting outside the hospital for the authorities to release the bodies of their loved ones.
A 24-year-old youth was similarly waiting outside for the body of his friend with whom he travelled daily to and from work. “I shudder to think how my friend’s wife and children will manage without him,’’ said the youth. The hospital has kept the bodies of the identified and unidentified victims in separate rooms, but have refused to hand them over to the relatives. “We will release the bodies only after police complete their investigations,’’ said a doctor.
At Sion hospital, it was the same story. Of the 60 bodies brought to the hospital, 16 were identified. The hospital authorities will release them on Wednesday. Arif and Farooq Darves identified the body of their brother Maqsood four hours back and were angry that they were not allowed to take his body home. Maqsood was travelling in the first class compartment of a Borivlibound train when the bomb exploded at Jogeshwari. “His wife has been calling up. What do we tell her?’’ asked Arif. TNN

Help is at hand! ``Sukkoolar`` Laloo has arrived in Mumbai. He is soon going to appoint his committee to investigate the incident. His committee is going to declare that these people blew themselves up, a la Godhra, so that gullible people automatically blame the innocent Islamic ``freedom fighters``.

``........ if the pakistani government refuses to do what it should do, india should take care of the problem itself ......... targeted assasinations of the trouble makers starting with hafeez saeed of let, maulana fazlur rehman, qazi hussain and his henchmen (they have a strong case because of SIMI`s association with JI) ........ they will be doing pakistan a favor .........``
Yes.......educated IM-s find these pests as rascals who should be immediately eliminated.......that is what they deserve....summary executions or even clandestine bombings of their rat holes..........Mush must be very pleased with the timings of the bombings because it shows that he is in control of the kashmiri jehadi elements .........BB made a statement on how Mush does not want resolution .......and there goes the bombs to show that he wants the Indian government on the negotiating table again...............
the question is this :
would the Indian Government oblige Mush or call off his bluff and retaliate by talking to BB and calling for restoration of democracy in Pakistan before any negotiations can occur?

I am not stupid my dear, you seem so.
Otherwise what is the logic of all western line targets??
If you were an intelligent man, you would have thrown some light on this rather than giving your unwanted opinion.
Get lost.

My opinion for what its worth:
First class compartments are relatively empty in non-peak hours, so it`s much easier for a bunch of mofo terrorists to sneak in and plant their RDX cocktails under seats, in fans or wherever the hell they planted them without being noticed.
I got irritated because you are obviously talking through your hat in #33. First of all, Worli is not a Western line station (it does not have a station at all). Secondly, Santacruz isn`t as affluent as you would believe. Thirdly, Central line carries MUCH more load than the Western line and its reach extends far beyond Western`s.
Finally, the fact that there were bombs on local trains is what`s important. Nobody asks, oh was it in a first class compartment? In that case, I am interested. You have no idea how Mumbai operates so don`t sit and posit theories smugly here on chowk.
Now YOU get lost.

[..summary executions or even clandestine bombings of their rat holes.....]
Ballu, these half measures are worthless. You kill one leader of LeT or JeM, his deputy will become the leader and carry on with the same agenda. The only solution is the ultimate solution - A unilateral, surprise, multi-pronged nuclear attack on Pakistan, while talking peace on the side to fool it, is the way to solve this problem once and for all. Pak does not have any second strike capability and we need to take advantage of that. The attack can be targeted at military cantonments and militray facilities across Pak to minimize civilian casualties with the sole objective of obliterating the pak military machine.
Of course, the world would condemn us for a few days, but most people including the US, Afghanistan, Iran and even the Pakis themselves would be very happy. Once the Pak army is wiped out, we can turn over Pak to the Pakistani people and let them consitute a fresh country as they choose. They may decide to remain together or split up but whatever gets constituted would have no military muscle ever again or threaten India in any manner.

All the people who died in mumbai blasts yesterday.May their soul rest in peace .My heartfelt condolonces for all the ppl who lost their loved ones and all who are injured in the blasts , may god give them the strenght to overcome this tragedy.
Whoever are behind this act are simply not human let alone slotting them according to religion or nationality.Hope there is peace after these blasts. As always after such terrorist attack in india the minority community is targeted and they fear retaliation , but hope the government takes appropriate measures to maintain peace.Political parties have already started their war , the opposition blaming the ruling party ,wish they could use all the energy and time on the betterment of society and providing adequate measures in the time of need.
Mumbaikars truely prove wrong the readers digest statement after the survey tht mumbai is one of the rudest city of the world , for atleast what i witnessed last night wayback from churchgate were 100`s of people on street who were there to help people in need.
Long Live Mumbai.
May there be peace in the world

``Ballu, these half measures are worthless. You kill one leader of LeT or JeM, his deputy will become the leader and carry on with the same agenda. ``
That is incorrect.............it is extremely important to show that the leaders of these goons would be the first to be targetted by deadly attacks........once this is done the rest of the followers would not think of becoming a leader......it is only that these goons think that by rising to the ranks in terrorist acts they gain greater powers, recognition (Al-Jazeera coverages), divine praise and physical security that each of the second rung OBL-wannabe tries to raise their levels of depravity..................once they find that there is no pay back in being a terror leader then the terror organization would collapse for lack of a career progression of each of these terrorists.........it is absolutely necessary to make it difficult for the terror leaders to remain there for long..............that is how the terroism in punjab was eliminated after bhindrawale was felled and there was no one to claim the mantle of bhindrawale..............it is absolutely necessary to take in these terror leaders if India or any other country is to be successful in combating them..................the biggest problem with US`s war on terror was that it did not take in OBL because somehow they found oil to be more attractive.............if OBL was taken in and eliminated like a dog on the streets of Afganistan I can say for sure that the menace of the global Extreme Islamism would have been defeated by now...........
