``though one can not sideline American public role and contribution in the field of science and technology``
It is refreshing to see acknowledgement of American contribution to science and technology. Unlike some of the self righteous idiots generally possessed by the attitude of ``ayrabs invented zero`` proclaiming how everything in the west is due to ``exploitation``.
Now coming to the topic. Currently, on a world wide basis, we are at or past the Peak Oil period. The point of time at which oil production will be at maximum ever production level and then will be in a permanent decline.
Kuwait recently revised the estimates in it`s biggest oil field called Burgan to approximately half of the originally estimated figure decades ago. Both Burgan and Ghawar of Saudi arabia can be considered as dinosaurs by their age and can safely be assumed that they are at or near peak. North sea began it`s permanent decline couple of years ago.
Ladies and gentlemen, unless the world discovers big new oil fields, we are in a deep s*&!t. If you think there is poverty problem now, wait till oil is in a permanent decline. You can expect large sections of the world`s population to die out of starvation. It will be like that scene in ``war of the worlds`` in which seemingly middle class people fight with eachother over a single car that is functional.
It`s not all gloom and doom scenario. Concepts like Ocean power technologies offer the greatest hope. But these technologies are not still at a conceptual stage. Governments need to move quickly before it`s too late.

Once the world starts moving to non-conventional sources in a big way US would stop getting paranoid about the oil and the mullahs would stop salivating the prospect of more petro dollars coming their way.............a good way to move towards world peace would be to ban fossil oil feul based energy consumption in certain segments of industry.........
