interesting article. IMO the common thread is not so much waiting for the Mahdi but a mixture of long provincial (read courrupt and incopmetant) ottoman rule and fear of the crusade. how can any society in constant fear of a (percieved) ``crusade`` focus on developement? since demise of the ottomans, the last saviors from crusaders, this fear has doubled back, as is seen in chowk interacts as well.

Chowkies,

Please join a demonstration against lies told by Israeli reservists. There have been protests against the Israeli government by IDF reservists declaring that Israel lost the war with Hezbollah. Several military experts and university professors are alleging that Israel suffered its first real defeat in the recent 35+ day war.

Concerned Chowkies, led by Arjun-m, Tahmed14, Hamidumdum II, Injun, Mohar11, Gujja, and Dillidost have organized an inter-faith shinterfaith demonstration for support of Israel and against the lies being spread about the defeat of the IDF. The protest has the following goals:

1. Establishment of independent and unbiased commission, headed by Dubya, Blair, and Condomleasa Rice, of inquiry into allegations of a Hezbollah victory.

2. Dispatching of BJP/VHP/JS/RSS/SP/BD/SS volunteers to serve as UNIFIL peace keeping force in Southern Lebanon.

3. Ultimatum to Eye Ran to cease the design, manufacture, and delivery to Hezbollah of missiles, night-vision goggles, bullet-proof vests, anti-tank missiles, and anti-aircraft weapons.

4. Complete disarmament and disrobing of all Hezbollah fighters, especially Nasiroolah - the dhoti-clad UN force will perform this mission. All soiled dhotis will be washed in the Litani River by Tahmed13 and Hamidumdum, the self-appointed dhobi ke kuttay (na ghar ke na ghat ke).

5. Wahabbi Maulana Catchy will perform the religious ceremony to make UN peacekeeping force look just like the Israeli and Hezbollah fighters while the dhotis are being washed.

Hizbollah has strategically, morally and ethically has won the war with all major standards and stands still in the future to come.

The bigger victory is still Israel`s. By bombing Lebanon for a full month and not earning so much as a censure in international forums (not even the supreme OIC could do anything), it has demonstrated that all the world bodies tomorrow would sit twiddling their thumbs as it goes about methodically destroying its enemies just enough to make sure that they remain as backward and medieval as ever.

Though Hizbollah has made victory by not losing...there is so much to come ahead in many multitude shapes in the form of attrocities of the big terrorist agenda of America and Israel. Hizbullah through Lebanon suffered great damage but it proved to be a litmus test for the Zionists that how they will be able to ``Overcome Iran``. The pilot test over Hizbollah proved many objectives through IDF. Prominent one is training themselves and gaining the skill to master the tactis they could afford against their far biggest enemies like Iran and Syria. Secondly hurting and bleeding Hizbollah was very important before any attack on Iran otherwise the counter-attacks would prove disastorous and ever lasting. And Bush provided this space of conducting this minor test which took life of thousands of civilians because of his tenureship couldn`t allow a major war criteria. Hizbollah has strategically, morally and ethically has won the war with all major standards and stands still in the future to come.

pmishra2 #3 {``As Israel is a democracy, their govt will get a good whooping from its people. Not the same story on the other side though.``}

Mishra Sahib,
Not being democracies, most Muslim countries will witness the type of government whooping that the Shah of Eye Ran got after he successfully bustsed the Arab oil embargo following the `73 Yom Kippur War. Watch for good whopping of the two Abadoolas, Mubarka, and Mushy Mushy Mush Mush. Revolution is just ``democracy`` by other means.

Bhaskar-da,

Why all this bania talk about strategy and long-term consequences etc. etc. This is all jew-bania type talk. You are discussing brave warriors !! They are allah`s chosen ! They are destroying the infidel! What could be better?

You get the idea. We are dealing with crazy cultures that have deeply internalized violent narratives about honor and other stuff. They would prefer to die killing some jewish children to building good schools, factories, etc.

In fairness, I have to say that the israeli govt has lost its marbles in doing what it did. As Israel is a democracy, their govt will get a good whooping from its people. Not the same story on the other side though.

Though P.B Shelly`s poem is a bit inspiring portraying the ancient history of Egyptian king made gods whose influential supremacy and footprints are merely the dust storms and wrecked remains now.

There had been idols in the sands of time of Arab which with there sacrifice of their pious blood had led the history to recognize them, the rebellion were rigid believers of Allah and despite of their minority the marvellous victory against shameless, cruel and huge violent suppressing army have made them immortal.

Khak-e-Shifa still carries the ``Taseer`` of their blood and the Euphrates River is flowing carrying the message of their immense ``Sabr``.

And many like Nasr-ulllah, Ameer Mukhtar, Khomeini like their ancestors will mark their presence in history in the footsteps of Kings of Desert of Karb-o-Bala and the whole world would quench their thirst with their limitless wisdom, knowledge and truth and worlds will mourn on mere sum of 72 shaheeds and the family of Prophet till Qayamats to come.
