If a country does not recognize the UN resolutions, which it promised to follow through, then how credible a G_S belonging to that country be. Kofi anan as much chutiya as he is, is a chutiya for himself not for Congo or wherever he has come from. Personally, I take exception to a potential General Secratery belonging to a country which has ceasefire agreements with all of its neighbors.

the SEc-Gen of the UN, whover he is, has to be suck up to the USA. so having a desi Sec-Gen will hardly be an honour. because if you get one who isn`t an obsequious slave he won`t be in the job for long even if he is appointed by some mistake.

the UN itself is a joke and a discredited organisation. if they had a system wherein all countries had equal votes and no countries had vetoes then it would be worth something perhaps. in its current state it is a waste of money and space and just there to rubber stamp American diktats.

in its current state, all self-respecting countries should just pull out of it.

i read an enjoyable novel once by shashi tharoor.

#1 BTW URSTRULY - you do ofcourse realise that if the UN resolutions are implemented - pakistan`s goose is also cooked. The current status quo is satisfactory for all parties.....esp pakistan!

Re: # 5

Mr. Dots,

I belive in compromises, pragmatism, and give-n-take. Uniletralism is the lonliest position in the whole wide world - human beings are not made out for that. So a wise man makes deals when he is able to save the most and not when he is about to lose everything.

I liked Shashi Tharoor in the beginning, but later I realised he is just another US p*imp.

In any case, even if he makes it to Sec General, he will be the Sec Gen of a body which is already dead, and he can only be the undertaker.

R.I.P , United Nations. Save all these poor nations your overheads.

the `new` UN general Secretary -- yet another shoe shine boy for the USA -- or at best a slobbering Security Council chilum boy for the 5 Hooka Masters -- this time from Asia -- so this time an Indian -- big deal -- not a demeaning job for a self respecting independent Indian?......from no self respecting UPA......no?

Re: # 9
Munir Akram is out of the picture. No body in the right mind would select a rep. from Pakistan because of its notorious history.

BTW does any one know what happened to charges brought against him for physical assaults by him on a call girl in his apartment? This happened some 3 years ago! Pak. govt put pressure on Washington which then put pressure on NYPD. Is it all over now.?

I thought that Shashi Kapoor had stopped acting - out of depression at the death of his wife. :)

I read Shashi Tharoor`s work year back.It was ``From Midnight to Millenium``.That clearly reflected India`s history .It was a poignant writing.I wonder what made him stand for this post as a Genneral Secretary of UN being a rational scholar, knowing that its a puppet of US , caring less for peace.
