`` 3) It can take military action, but US is overstretched militarily and committing ground forces is out of question. ``
Or one fine day turn Iran in to a glass parking lot. Keep stretching.

Ahmedinejad is great at walking the brink. He keeps goosing US with his rhetoric while knowing perctly well there isn`t much it can do in return. So he keeps US squirming between considering its options while at the same time accelerating his nuke programme in addition to testing missiles and subs with perfectly timed intervals. Gaining crucial time.
And what can the US do?
1) It can decide to do nothing and try direct negotiations or;
2) It can try diplomatic pressures, security council resolutions, sanctions etc which won`t work because of Iran`s vast borders with friendly countries. Besides, there have been calls from EU that any sanctions must exclude `oil`. What else is left then to sanction?
3) It can take military action, but US is overstretched militarily and committing ground forces is out of question. Air-campaigns will have limited success in neutralizing the nuke programmes because it is spread in more than 200 sites with no one knowing which is which. Adverse public opinion inside US is also a factor. But most critically, any military action will shut down the Strait of Hormuz and 19 million barrels a day (60% of daily world consumption) will be suspended.
So in all practicalty, USrael can do diddly squat. Ahmedinajad will keep goosing US, fingering the Israelis, and continue to build his nuke. The rhetoric will only stop with Iran`s first nuke test. (Just as Vajpayee`s gloating mouth got silenced only with Pak`s test.)

Kulharee yaar, this is an incredibly one sided article. I expected this from Jew wannabe Indian investment bankers like Chaltoo, not someone like you. Israel today occupies the moral authority of Apartheid South Africa, and just as that apartheid regime had its apologists, the state of Israel has its own.

Netizen #51 {``if he had pursued the nuke just as for persian aspirations, the support form the rest of the muslim world would have been lukewarm
now he has effectively silenced govs. like pak, turkey, saudis... ``}
Netty,
Correction -maybe he has silenced turkey and soodis. Having almost 20% Shias in the population and even a much higher percentage in the government, Pakistan has by now probably given the Eye Ranians the family jewels, deed to the family farm, and the recipe for the family dish. :)

after observing am...nijad`s antics for a while, I have realised that this guy is a chopaa rustom.
he knows where the pressure points are.
his aim is to get a nuke for iran. what better way to do it by proclaiming it in the name of palistanians/islam.
if he had pursued the nuke just as for persian aspirations, the support form the rest of the muslim world would have been lukewarm
now he has effectively silenced govs. like pak, turkey, saudis...
as the awam of these nations think that iranian nukes are only meant for tel aviv in the quest for liberation of palistine. forgetting if ah..nijad really meant, he would have taken advantage of israeli-hez. fight to throw the jews into the ocean.

I never understood what jews/israel and/or their holocaust had to do with mo`s cartoon.
was this cartoon sanctioned by israeli gov??
also a person can question the numbers killed, but making fun of those who were murdered in cold blood is very obnoxious.

Wonder if Mr. Feroz is aware that in some European countries denying holocaust is a ``CRIME``. What the hell is this stupid law about. What happened to freedom of speech. Apparantly one can ridicule all religions, make fun of prophets but NO you canot question holocaust. What the hell. what is the sense in this double-speak. I think this is ahmadinijad`s reponse to the cartoon mess created by europeans. Cartoons were replied by cartoons.
Somehow ridiculing religions is chic and cool but questioning past events is a mortal sin. No doubt holocaust happened but the question that people often ask is if the holocaust was as enormous as it is made out to be. People should be entitled to question, no matter how inappropriate the question.

Feroz Uncle: A good piece.Ahmedinejad is a nitwit..asking for a debate with Bush. Both of them are idiots when it comes to geopolitics. They should however debate whose prophet is better. and when Jesus comes back..who the fluck he is gonna roast. Now that would make for a good celebrity death match.
