Yes, that would be true IF you cherry pick and ONLY take a few suras AND ``interpret`` them to your liking. Otherwise, the facts are blatantly obvious to anyone reading the Quran
- volumes and volumes of suras exhorting Muslims to unconditionally submit to the will of Allah (read Muhammad) and NOT TO QUESTION his words - OR ELSE.

However, a newly revised Quran free of this stuff (that you say doesn`t exist in the Quran) would be a welcome change for all of humanity.

Like other religions, Islam has some unique strengths and special gifts, and like other religions, it has some unique weaknesses and special flaws. These flaws are simply too deep and too all-encompassing...

You`re getting there, but not quite. I won`t call these `flaws` but a radically different concept of nature of things from anything else which is rarely fully understood. When Pope quoted ````Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new``, he really didn`t know what he was talking about. There was certainly nothing new in the biblical stories repeated in Quran, but everything else was brand new and remains so.

Let me give you an example to ponder over the weekend. The Pope quoted ``Muhammad had brought the world only `evil and inhuman` things`` thereby implying use of the sword being somehow contrary to God`s nature. Let`s take `evil` for the moment..

In Christianity, Devil is the central embodiment of evil and an enemy of God and a powerful entity in its own right. In Islam the Devil has no power other than the power to discourage humans from obeying God; for God is supreme over all his creations and Devil is just one of his creations. See the difference?

If you grasp this, as I`m sure you would, we`ll take it on from there.

..... you said, ``the Quran in fact makes it your responsibility as an individual to think and act in a rational manner.``............ that might or might not be true depending on how you interpret gabby`s garbled message, but it is a fact that you do not see any manifestation of this koranic injuction other than in a few enlightened individuals like you and your sahaba .......... the recent fuss over the hudood laws in pakistan is just one example of how impossible it is to act in a rational manner in a muslim society based on the koran and sunnah ............and this problem is endemic from morocco to the phillipines .......... maybe we will do better with your new and improved version - i will be your first convert .......

hamidm #357 I dont think Ratzinger nailed it on the head at all. All he did was prove what I have always said on chowk - mullahs are parasites who feed off religion, and all they can do is squabble with one another about whose religion is better. He just proves that whether it is mullah fazloo or mullah pope - they are no different.

Organized Religion in the west and Religious Organizations in Pakistan are about politics, about money, about immorality hiding behind beards and robes. They are the opposite of what religion is all about.

The Pope was factually incorrect. These people are bitter about Islam`s vast conquests, nothing else, and crib whenever given the chance.

Even though the territories were obviously conquered with sword, the populations were never converted by force. If it had been so, there would be no christians left in Spain, nor any Hindus in India. Or did they all hastily convert back after end of Muslim rule?

Always remember the timespan available to Muslim rulers to use their swords: 800 years in the first instance and a thousand in the second!
