Naqshbandi, bhai, sufism is a whole different game. How much of it is Islam and how much of it is - according to some Muslims themselves - neither holy nor innocent...that`s harder to settle than determining what lies inside the mind of the Almighty Himself. :)
You should write something up about the three people you mentioned and how they explained the Quran in their philosophy.
philosopher, what you say about amateur philosophers is spot on. On the philosophy of Islam, there isn`t a sharper mind on Chowk than Zeemax Ustaad, and a phd in philosophy he is probably not.
Anyways, we got sidetracked from discussing some important questions between men and women. And Naqsh and philosopher, stop being such wusses. There may be more to beatings and spankings and paddlings than we know. That`s what poor saimarana was trying to say when beej got mad at her.

Naqshbandi
What are you doing? Do you think we have enough time for this on our hand. PLease refrain from counter-productive ways for your own good.

In philosophical science there are two established and standard methods used in the pursuit of knowledge - epistemology. One method is called a-priori and other is called posteriori. In layman`s terms a priori is a method in which we assume a certain fact or phenomenon to be true and then use logic and reasoning to prove or disprove that fact. Au contraire posteriori is a method which assumes that we must keep examining evidence and see where it leads us to. One method is not superior to other or vice versa - both methods are valid and lead us to same results.
A Muslim philosopher conducts his exercise of logic and reasoning with a priori assumption that the Truth of One Absolute is true, irrefutable, and unfallacious. The Western thought process on the other hand uses the posteriori method. My discussion with Philosopher, in fact is based on these two differing approaches. My contention is that Western thougt process has already subtracted the existence of One Absolute Truth from their pursuit of knowledge with giving it the dignity of `due process`. So how can one get there where he doesn`t want to go?
You and me both know that ultimate One Absolute Truth will become evident to every seeker.

OK Chowkies since I`ve decided to confess, let me also add that I am an intellectual snob and make no apologies for it.

I`m seriously considering using a different moniker from now on as this no longer really defines who I am.

Why is it only British people who understand irony?

Confession: I enjoy getting under people`s skin and often on Chowk --certainly in the replies section--make comments I don`t really believe in--just to annoy and outrage people. So there you have it. After 6 years or so on Chowk a confession!
:D

Methinks the lady doth protest too much....or something like that.
Some more sayings on the topic of women:
Treat them mean to keep them keen - (anon)
Act rough to get the muff - (anon)
And to be totally obnoxious I`ll quote from a passage by the great American writer Norman Mailer:
``A little bit of rape is good for a man`s soul``.
Normal Mailer, 1972.
Note to Chowkies: Before you rightly bite my bollocks off for these outrageous comments which I do NOT actually adhere to at all (note to intellectually challenged Zeena: `biting one`s bollocks off` is not meant literally) I am just peed off my Miss Z and my tootache and am taking it out on Chowk
Now crucify me.

oh, btw, your response to me had more holes in it than a polo mint. i NEVER said i was a hadith expert, rather the contrary.
a bit of advice: no one is forcing you to believe in hadith if you don`t want to but please stop embarassing yourself further. Honestly, you remind me of Meera when she tries to speak in English. Not even Inzamam massacres the English language like you do!

Zeena darling, without sounding mean, you do come across as a bit of a drama queen--and worst still, you appear uneducated when you write sentences of ghastly English prose full of grammatical errors. Yet you have the temerity to make fun of `mullahs`.
I, for one, have never claimed to be a mullah because, as I`m sure brother echoboom will testify, when applied to a real mullah it is the grandest title and a commoner like me cannot debase it by associating my name with it.
Now, now, young lady, the expression `don`t get your knickers in a twist` has actually got nothing to do with your underwear. As for the `getting laid` comment it is proven by psychologists that sex is often the best cure for certain mental disorders of the type which you seem to exhibit.
You should be on Big Brother!

bjkumar
So, practically you too, are in women abusers list. Why are you abusing saimarana?
Why you can`t handle the pressure of dialogues decently with out even stooping to that low level?
This is the problem with all you women abuser men(regardless of any religion) , you take no time to start attacking and abusing women , when you find your self unable to take the heat of the a smart dialogue.
That is where this physical abuse begins for the women , that`s what this article is all about.....................So, bjkumar tell me what`s the difference between you and all these crazy mullahs on this boards, who are abusing me for no reason and who are justifying their shameful act of abuse on the bases of false Hadiths? tsk, tsk, tsk....
To all women abusers on this board........................
Why Talibans used to beat their women in public and forced to make them beg with shabby clothes?
When talibans were really good and excellent practicing muslims with all this junck of hadiths ?
So, Talibans and you out there are the worst kind of women abusers who hide under Hadiths to make an excuse for the beating up of the women.
Shame on you all.
