Dear Interactors,
As some of you are blaming the Muslims for Islamophobia (and I partially agree with you on that), I just wanted to clarify the intent of writing the article. And that is to talk about the impact of 9/11 on the psyche of the average Muslim.
That 9/11 was orchestrated by some frustrated youth in the name of Islam is obvious and has occupied enough (and rightly so) media space. That other terrorist acts that followed were also carried out by terrorists in the name of Islam is also obvious. That 9/11 has given an impetus to fundamentalist organisations to attack Muslims in countries where they are in a minority (I guess Gujarat-2002 may not have happened were it not for 9/11) is also obvious.
What the average Muslim has to go through, as mentioned in the article, is NOT obvious. And I just wanted to bring your attention to it.
Thanks.
Irena Akbar

Pmishra2,
Kebab mein Haddi??????
I have noticed this in all religions. Muslims demand more in non-Muslim societies. Hindus demand more in non-Hindu societies and Christians demand more in non-Christian societies (though some demands are justifiable). The last variety is more common in non-white countries.
Your demand is reasonable but nobody can question Saudis or any Arab country on this matter. I think Qatar is the only exception. The new Qatari king is a modern kind of guy.
Irena,
Your point is well taken. One silly thing happened in Spain recently. Two young Pakistanis were disembarked just becoz the rest of the passengers felt unsafe. This world is not an ideal place. The spate of terrorist violence has reduced the free space for all the dark skinned people, not just Muslims.
If Mr. Mishra want to live in KSA, he need to follow the rules of KSA. He has two options 1. complain 2. compromise? Ask urself?
In KSA u cant complain, in the US u can. You can even kick a fuss abt the discrimination and demand compensation. In the KSA, they`d show u the door. Open societies have avenues for a) dialogue, b) protest c) Compensation. Your complaint is redressed or the civil society wud debate the issue. In closed societies u cant do anything. You just comply or leave.
I had an experience of a clean-shaven, 6-footer pathan colleague refusing me a pillion ride during Gujarat riots becoz I am bearded (though I am not a Muslim). Though it was insulting for me then but when I look back, yes, he`s right. He played it safe.

Never utter evil thoughts for they may be fulfilled...
Halliburton corporation (through a subsidiary) has been awarded hundreds of millions of dollars worth of construction contracts to build internment camps at various undisclosed locations throughout the US of A. I suppose it is just a precaution to hold infected and exposed people in quarantine in the event of a deadly pandemic.
Aushwitz, after all, was temporary housing for transient workers.

[... it ususally starts this way ...]
Not always... not in godhra... not in that place in kerala where a bunch of people were hacked in their temple... certainly not in New York city...
And the trouble with non-muslims is that they do not want to take such non-routine atrocities lying down any more... they have come back to ``avenge`` the deaths... so you had riots in gujrat...[nothing in kerala, as far as I know] and daisy cutters in afganistan/iraq... and now everybody is clamoring about hindu domination and yankee imerialism...
See - the funny thing with that kind of stupid lofgic is that it works both ways... we all can find root causes and atrocities that have been committed against us... we call can validate barbarism based on that...
And guess who will win at the end?

``The funerals of 11 murdered Muslims have taken place in eastern Sri Lanka.
Their bodies were found after they had apparently gone to repair an irrigation system. Local Muslims have called for an inquiry into how the men died.``(AP)
now as far as I know Sri Lanka has no `Muslim problem` -- it ususally starts this way -- the trouble with the Muslims is that they would NOT take such `routine` atrocities lying down -- now if they come back to avenge the deaths -- everybody will be clamoring about Islamo-fascism and clash of uncultures.....

zeemax/urstruly: at the moment, i don`t think anyone wants anyone`s first born. at least not in canada. though i don`t know what is happening in the usa, since i left about five to six years ago. i am still significantly more comofortable in canada than i would be in pakistan. as are any of you, if you are not in pakistan..........
there are however, three dynamics that are occuring:
- the usa is in an increasing spiral of violence with the muslim world, and vice-versa. this is going to get out of control, if it is not stopped immediately. i would say the usa holds all the cards on this issue on how to stop it.......
- other western countries, whose concepts of foreign affairs are completely different from usa are getting sucked into it, due to pressure applied on them by the usa.
- a force, primarily with religious motivations is appearing in the islamic world, which is gettting larger and larger, which has made it a point to fight the usa. this force is fighting state terrorism in some places (like iraq) and is committing terrorism in other places (wtc etc.) it is not one single force, but the common motivating factor seems to be one, i.e. fight the usa (and israel)........
- if this cycle of violence between the usa and this force continues, it is bound to have serious impacts on others. some will use this force to divide and discriminate. the net affects will be more attacks on muslim countries and more attacks on usa and other allied targets............
the expat muslims are caught in the middle of this war in a most vulnerable position. the us foreign policy has very little regard for their position. and those who back this force in muslim countries, in various forms - in its most noblest form in fighting us state terrorism in iraq or in its most evil form in targeting the wtc - also have very little or no concern for the expats.........
the expats are thus on their own, and should unite and form their own pressure groups..........while i am quite sure people won`t be coming for their children, they will and are becoming victims or discrimination in the usa and england. this may spread to other countries...........

I mean - if Irena wants islamopobia to be removed from various places in the kafir world - she should have to say/do something about removing kafir-phobia from the muslim world... that`s a very leigitimate and simple ``expectation`` of civlity and reciprocity... what`s wrong with that?...
Kaal mian - you are a good man but please don`t offer excuses for islamic stupidity...

[...if we got rid of these unreasonale expectations from one another, the world will be a much safer place...]
But we can`t, can we?... we are living in an increasingly globalised world... so the alternative is to do on to others what you want them to do to you... right?...
You are giving excuses where there can be none... there is a legitimate case here - people should stand up for others if they want others stand up for them... otherwise what you have is a clash of civilizations... every man for himself...

Abey vermin ka bachha vermin hee hota hai... much as I wud like the meek humans to
wakeup & see for themselves what this cult is about, your first-(or second or eighth) born
are all safe. Humans rely on equality before law and conscience. Not what a child abuser thought in 7th century.
As for your message on muslims ... there is a slight monkey wrench in the works ... but let
me enjoy how one katwa is congratulating another !!

[...a time has come that now they want our first borns...]
Yep - the time has come indeed... the question is why are you still here?... pick up your first born and go back to the pure land - the land which was created for the faithful... I mean - why sit in kafir land, under kafir system and whine about kafir practices?... what`s the hold up?

The audacity of the dyed-in-the-wool Islamic Fudamentalists and their wannabe`s and their sycophants is absolutely mind-boggling!
Never fear, DOCTOR GWB has just the right prescription for you.
And he IS going to administer it.
Like it or not.
Few patients do, actually!
But it is for your own good.

Nobody`s going to do a holocaust on me. I`m worried about hamidm.
And stop harping on Darfur. It is no different from Rwanda`s Tutsis and Hutus. It`s a tribal conflict. It is the result of keeping Africa `dark`. Nothing to do with Muslims or any other.

[.. There will be a holocaust of Muslims in western countries...]
What`s wrong with that?... there has been holocaust of other people in many muslim countries... non-muslims have been wiped out from muslim countries - soodi, iran, iraq, pakiland... And there is a holocaust going on right now on black people by arabs in Sudan...
any case - you pakis have a pure homeland already, where you can practice your bedouinism in its purest form... what are you doing in the West in the first place?...
So stop whining... go back to pure land and nobody will do any holocaust on you...
