The british ruined India`s economy - i have proof too...India was known as the ``sone ki chidiya``. Every body on earth from the mughals, arabs, columbus, brits, portugese - all wanted to get to India and get a piece of the action. What happened after 200 years british rule? Have you ever heard of the Bengal famine in the 1940s? There used to be famines every few years in India, thanks to the devastation of India`s economy. Hundreds of thousands would die of sheer starvation. By 1947, we were a nation of beggars who could not even make a pin. The only jobs available were government jobs. We hindus and muslims fought and split the country just so that we could keep our access to those government jobs.

Look at the situation since 1947. India is now on its way to regaining its status as ``sone ki chidiya``. The economy is booming. Just today the GDP numbers came out at more than 8% growth. Forget about famines, now we can feed ourselves and everyone else in the neighborhood. We manufacture everything. Our people are way more healthier and wealthier. If there are people still squatting on railroad tracks, its due to the residual effects of 200 years of looting and destitution. In 25 years, India will be developed. Just wait and watch. Even the Pakis are wishing they could participate in the Indian juggernaut.

It is really easy to be brave when you have nothing to lose. Afghans live in caves or mud houses and at most own a goat or two. They treat that goat better than they treat their women. No one goes to school, forget about college or industry or anything else that represents human civilization.

So if you are an untamed savage animal, of course you can keep on fighting for centuries against everyone or each other. Whats the big deal?

Real bravery comes when you build an advanced civilization AND fight to protect it. That is when you have a lot to lose and are better off surrendering, yet you fight for your principles. Very few people can do that. Must as I hate the Brits for colonialism, I admire the Brits and the US for their bulldog like capability to fight AND have a civilization. It is incredible to see young Americans and British enlist to fight in WW2 and other wars. They have such a comfortable, luxurious life in their country as compared to the rest of the world, yet they are willing to fight and die for their principles. That is real bravery. The Germans and Japanese learnt that lesson.
