Ama Adam yaar,
I get it. Manto is a jooti that wants to be put on head – but because of some unknown reasons, most Pakistanis don’t want to!
I like your description of the food thaali.
And what’s the big deal with Aishwarya Rai – don’t the Pakistanis have movie actresses of their own to fantasize over?
Your own women are not good-looking enough?!!!

Adam khan,
An excellent summation of the cable mania...
The oddest thing I find is those people who love Indian movies the most, are the people who are taken by religious programming and are generally the ones who want to go to war with India.
To these people Aishwariya Rai will always be better than ZQ or Vaneeza or Aaminah Haq or Iman Ali or Tooba or Sunita Marshall... Pakistani models who far outshine Aishwariya Rai in beauty and brains in my opinion (others don`t have to agree with this assessment) ... probably because to these same people, the thought of Pakistani (and/or Muslim) models is disturbing whereas a Hindu/Indian model/actress is acceptable because in their minds every model/actress to them is a slut. It is thus fair that you`ve not mentioned Indus Music, Aag, Style Duniya, Fashion TV Pakistan, Aaj, Play and TVOne... Pakistani channels which Arsalan types skip when channel flipping...

Get Arsalaan the Discovery, History and National Geographic too. Looks like he`s watching too much trash! As for Baba Jee, best for him are a pack of `duk cigratoona`.

Clicking off channelism of life is not a dilema for young Arslan of Pakistan. Immunity of problems through media take over is present all over the world! Americans the civilized are the most devotee to Television with highest individual percentage of hours/day plus the highest number of channels to browse through. Despite being so much showered by media beams they an average kid still lacks a global thinking, he cant deduce a political axiom outside the terroritriese of his state and the country.
However a poor Arslan of the street of Pakistan can debate over Afghan to Palestine issue recklessly just because he is taught that way and have many social enigmas of society that relates to him that gets dissolved. And the feeling of opression as a Muslim is the connection that is cabled in his/her mind and he find himself rightly associated with the slogans of war.

My SWITCHING experience:
SWITCH!!!
Geo TV: Aamir Liaqat Hussain, pretending to weep because of emotions, whole two mullahs are sitting on his left and right: munkir nakeer? Reason for emotions: A filthy christian has embraced Islam and telling his story to enlightenment over the phone. Kalima was taught by a Shia aalim on left and Sunni on right.
When the program will finish, These Ulemas will again start ``Sahaba and Ahl e bait`` histoire again.
SWITCH!!!
Geo Super: Pakistan won against Lanka. Shoaib Akhtar Smoked Canabis. Yaar Ramzan da kujh tay khayal kerna si.
SWITCH!!!
QTV: A bearded mullah reciting a naat...
SWITCH!!!
Dr Zakir Naik... First thought: Mother Fucker...
SWITCH!!!
CNN: A report on Islamism... Mother fuckers: Yahood o Hanood...
SWITCH!!!
Z-Smile: Indian Sense of humor sucks...
SWITCH!!!
Punjabi Stage Show: Our sense of humor starts from vulgarity... Ends at the same point...

SWITCH!!!
PTV Aftari time... Someone cooking something Italian... Hot Sexy Host has bomb blown hairstyle...
SWITCH!!!
Ashwariya praying that she should not be made daughter in agla janam...

Shah Rukh Khan is Don... Doesn`t look like one... Why do girls like him that much... How many girls have he screwed so far? Why is my count so low? Am I that ugly?
SWITCH!!!
Virtual University: Teaching HR management...
SWITCH!!!
Virtual University 2: Teaching economy: Much beter than PTV 2 where they used to teach Tractor Chalana...
SWITCH!!!
Amitabh Bachan... Old movie... He is Sapahi, his brother chor... Rekha is the heroine... Singing Song with Amitabh... She is laying in a garden with flowers on her face. Amitbh picks them one by one with his lips and puts them on her lips... and then he reaches her lips to kiss.. Suddenly a bang in background, shows a green mountain... I SWITCH!!! bj, smartsyco, Fumair, Manto, Arjun, Ballukhan, Thanks for the appreciation.
bjkumar Sahib: I chose Ashwariya because of the song ``Ishq Kamina``. In his dream Arsalan hears it as ``Main Kamina`` because despite building a mosque and owning an Enzo he is still not satisfied with himself. Reason being the poor old Baba jee.
This piece is about the propensity of us Pakistanis to turn away from the problems in which we can make a differnce and to get hyper over ones that we cant do anything about.
Chowk-Staff: Thanks for the quick response to the problems with the italics.

Re: # 11 So much for the trash but nothing for serious hardcore sciences and technologies.I can remember the series ``Mechanical Universe`` by Prof. David Goldstein aired by PTV some years back. This is what i call imparting knowledge.I learned my concept of Resonance from that series which my Physics teacher couldn`t pushed through my head despite his best efforts. And till late in my engineering career i used to think in two dimensions coz the books or the visual aids were lacking in graphics quality.VU has different agenda or audience but why doesn`t some ``channelwalla`` bothers to invite some professors or doctors once a while from home or abroad and discuss some serious and thought provoking cutting edge technologies or have them deliver lectures. Why we are so much obsessed with trivialities and hair splitting the non-issues.

One of my friend was telling me that ``Cosmos`` by Carl Sagan used to be telecasted on PTV even during Zia era. Looking at the content of carl Sagan`s documentaries and assuming that similar lecture series for promoting rational thinking and scientific logic used to be telecasted on PTV a couple of decades back.
Now, although we have several channels, I have not seen a single program being telecasted on these channels. The channels who pretend to be enlghtened and moderate are even more irrational than the old PTV. Maximum rationality these channels show is trying to explain islamic ideas through scientific way or scietific ideas through islamic teachings. I wonder if they realize that there can be something in the world which can have a non-religious perspective.

Brilliant.
Miss the charsi`s tikkas. Went back after almost 8 years and that was 2 years ago. Lots have changed. Still remember the good ol` days when Stoli was 100 ruppees (post Chernobyl) and Chief burger was a one room show. Actually, preferred kareem`s burgers? `cause of the odd heine and the duk cirgats...

A good review of Paky cable tv!
You omitted to mention Hamza on GEO and Qtv.
The other day the boy in Hamza puts the following question to Ustad:
``Ustad ji, Allah says the Satan is chained during Ramazan. Then why there are so many sins committed despite absence of Satan in Ramazan?``
Ustad says, ``It was only to test the man how he behaves without Satan goading him to commit sins, which, he claims, are due to misguiding by Satan ``.
Qtv:
A mulla telling `fazaail and barkaat` of `woozu`. He says, ``All your previous sins
are forgiven the moment you start performing woozu``.
Arsalan: Seeing Satan in bondage touching his ears on seeing the sins being committed by Pakies without him and being forgiven by Allah, en block, thinks of quiting his profession altogether

Dear Adams
I find it very hard to understand why are Pakistanis so obsessed with Aishwarya, Shah Rukh Khan when both of them have refused/refrained to visit Pakistan on several occasions. Even Pakistanis organizers who want to invited Indian Film actors and actress are were also threatened by fanatics. It just takes one fanatic to do something spectcular. Imran Khan was threatened by MMA for inviting Amir Khan for a Charity show in Lahore. It would be better if Aishwarya, Shah Rukh Khan don’t visit Pakistan in the near future. Not only that there is a complete ban on Indian films in Pakistan. The ban is further extended to Indian channels, Indian Magzines and Indian products. There was a time after Partition when “Hindi” language was considered as a Language of the Enemy. Any one teaching, learning or writing Hindi was considered a traitor and even declared a Anti-National. Many ancient and price-less Hindi and Sanskrit Books were completely Burned in Lahore (Now Pakistan).

PS: I would invite any Pakistani citizen to correct me if I wrong

I think you need to do some research and understand that so called ``hindi`` is not even a language, it uses sanskirit dialect with Urdu /Arabic/Persian vocal signature. Infact Hindi was derived from Urdu. Urdu is the lingua franca of Muslims. Having been developed by Muslim rulers of India, Urdu was used as a secondary language to Persian, the official language of the Mughal court. Urdu was not only developed as lingua franca but it was a part of the design of Muslim conquerors to establish their political and cultural hegemony in this region. Hindi, my friend, came into existance around 1867 whereas Urdu was developed in 1526.
``Urdu was the language of gentry and Hindi that of the vulgar.``

get your facts straight discoverer...
Hindi is a derivative of Sanskrit and uses teh devnagri script...and Sanskrit is older than 5the century BC, back to the aryan period and thankfully THUS not a derivative of Urdu.
Please refer to wikipedia....and dont giv BS here about what u know half about.
Hindi does indeed use parts of some Urdu words, and Urdu is equally influenced by Hindi in the region. Both the languages have bee used historically in the same region ie India-Pakistan. and have this has been so for verry verry long. Thus they are bound to influence each other to some extent.
