Dear Ranjit,
Please note that the discussion here is vis a vis economic prosperity ... Human Development Index, my friend, has several different factors which are not directly linked to Economic performance.
That Pakistan (and India) are crap when it comes to human development ie. longevity of life, child welfare, literacy rates and economic prosperity. It is a failure of our state structures no doubt.
However... the issue here was Economic prosperity ... since India claims to have phenomenally jumped and improved economic conditions of all its citizens.
So in the context of this discussion, the HDI has no bearing on the fact that Pakistan has a higher GDP/Capita Nominal.

Re: # 440
Dear Devkant,
I see that you are still trying to evade the real issue. No a person earning 700 dollars in Pakistan or India is not the same as a person earning the same in the US, nor did I say this but it seems that when you`ve dug yourself a deep one... you will try desperately to clutch on to anything eh Devkant bhaiya?
The difference between GDP and GNP is a fundamental and if you think about it , given that you are IIT, you`d know that what you just stated is exactly the reason why one chooses GDP instead of GNP as a measure... which is why your world bank thing went to waste.
Now the reason why one chooses GDP/Capita Nominal instead of the Purchasing Power Parity is because
1. Countries under report their inflation and therefore GDP/Capita Nominal is much more reliable than PPP.
2. Inflation itself indicates Economic activity and therefore PPP is not a good measure of Economic performance...
You can thank me for educating you... but my guess is that I`ll get more of the same abuse from you.

so basically according to yASSer...a person earning USD 700 per year in india is at the same as a person earning USD 700 per year in USA.
and another gem from yASSer.....``every Indian who comes to Pakistan thinks Pakistan is Dubai or something.``
bhai yASSer....if the link on 309 does not open, then get your pc checked....or may be your country has blocked that sight because it proves your claim of indian scientists not being in fermilabs hollow.
regarding the engineers, you have yet not produced a single credible name of any pakistani who is in the top 3 positions of major US companies. i have given up hope of you producing any credible names because none exist.
now since chowk does not pay for my bills, my wife`s shopping, my child`s expenses and my booze and partying expenses, i will get back to work. you can sit here and keep up the good work like a good chowk employee.

I had quoted my friend syaing 5,000 engineers per year, about 18 mos. ago. In this guys and my time, University of Delhi was producing only 250 engineers per year.
The guy goes ballistic and starts calling ``Hindooland`` whatever... , even without a reality check.

Manto, I dont mean to rain on your parade but check out the latest United Nations Human Development Report, which is the main global standard to measure development of a country.
http://hdr.undp.org/hdr2006/statistics/
You will see that India has a HDI ranking of 126 while Pakistan has 134 (higher number is worse, Norway has a HDI ranking of 1). As compared to us, China is at 81.
Frankly speaking, both the countries are in a pathetic state of development. Albania, Cuba and even the Occupied Palestinian territory rank higher than both India and Pakistan. Something to ponder over!!

Re: # 433
The reason why GDP/Capita nominal is more accurate than GDP PPP is the issue of under-reporting of inflation.
GNP is totally different since GNP creates global confusion ... given that it becomes wholely dependant on income by citizens/incorporated artificial persons anywhere in the world... instead of production within borders

Devkant bhai,
Please note that we`ve closed the debate on engineers since you`ve backed out of your assertion. Your Fermilab link doesn`t open and you made quite a boo boo with your GNP-GDP confusion.
As for blowing up infrastructure.... only an underdeveloped country like India can be proud of 2-lane ``High ways`` really as infrastructure.
The pictures I posted are old... if I was to put up pictures of New Pakistan, you Indians would probably die of envy.

Krishna ABCD,
God you people are so pathetic.
You seriously ought to travel on Pakistani roads... the Pakistan`s decade old motorway for example is not a two laner like this pathetic specimen you are putting up below as a great Indian achievement...
Forget the Motorway (you cannot even compare ....) here are pictures of normal city roads in Karachi... and these were built more than 20 years ago...

No wonder with that ``achievement`` posted by Krishna... every Indian who comes to Pakistan thinks Pakistan is Dubai or something.

krishna bhai....please don`t show these pakistanis such pictures of development. for all you know tomorrow there will be jehadis from pakistan who will blow them selves up and destroy all this.
and yASSer, the fermi labs link does work on 309. along with your head, get your comp and internet connection examined too.
plus we have not heard anything from you regarding the eng pakistanis in top 2 or 3 positions in major US cos. still awaiting dude....and please produce evidence for your rape figures of india and US.

Anil,
Behram sahib has never clarified whether 2300 engineers are churned out per day or per year or per decade or the total output since inception of those colleges.
Manto,
Purely for my interest- is GDP/per capita at nominal figure a more accurate measure of income or GDP at PPP prices. And where can I dig out stats for GDP per capita at PPP prices.
(GNP as GDP )
The difference I believe is Net factor income from abroad, right?
Regards

``My own engineering university in Karachi produced some 2300 engineers when I completed my engineering degree. There was another reputable engineering college in Karachi at the time, which further produced some 2,000 engineers. ``
You should fight disinformaiton with information and prove, that 2,300 engineers / per year from University of Karachi graduate in 1960s (may be early 70s).
Even Stanford or MIT did not produce 2,300 engineers per year in those days.
WITHOUT FACTS JUST DO NOT JUMP IN, resist temptation to stretch the truth that it does not look a real lion.
For your sanity, at the very least start spelling Hindus correctly, so that it does not show your chamchagiri, and instead shows your loyalty to Pakistan when you make a point.
Remember, and you may even repeat after me... ``you are no Hamidm.``
For your knowledge.
In those days, each IIT (there were 5 IITs) did not produce more than 90 graduates / year in each of the engineering branches. Only Tata`s scholarship or assistantship abroad allwwed graduates to go abroad to study.
Tata Institute (Indian Institute of Sciences, now) produced even less number of engineers every year, and was regarded as the best engineering institution in India.
My college, where IIT Delhi students in those days to come and study, produced only 250 engineers per year in all engineering categories.
IIT Delhi students came to my college, because that was how IIT Delhi was formed out of my college.
IITs are magnets to attract talent. It is this talent that made IITs a brand. The faculty was no different. IITs were purley based on merit and succeeded int creating meritocracy in India. You should familiarize from Bertrand Russells essay on importance of meritocracy. Nehru was an ardent admirer of Russsell. India can use more such magnets.
Hope for reality check you do not need to go to pyschologist`s chair. Instead it takes you to University of Karachi`s graduation roster to establish that it was producing 2,300 engineers per year.
You may have forgotten to devide your numbers by five, if the program was a five year program, as it used to be in India in those days. Your testasterone in a rush probably deceived you and prevented you to divide the total strength of the engineering students in the university, to arrive at the annual number of engineering graduates. By the way, this is not a question of ``Hindooland``, I know you love this word. It is a question of maintaining your sanity, and controlling your testasterones and keep cool.
I have never disrepected anyone and please keep such filth off when you cannot resist your temptation and must answer to my post.
You started posting response to me, just remember...
Please simply produce any evidence here that Univ. of Karachi was producing 2,300 engineers per year in 1960s and ealry 1970s.
The entire India was producing less than 10,000 engineering students in those days. That too, due to delays in the implementaion of five year plan, caused unemployment among engineers in India. The government offered Rs. 200 per month stipend to engineering graduates until they were employed. Some of my classmates did not get jobs for a year.
Even in those days Indian economy was not smaller than Pakistan, therefore, needed more engineers.
I can assure you that I have great and honest friends from both side of the border of the sub-continent. Therefore, best is to resist temptations to interact with me and try to insult me, thank you. You and Rsridhar are two side of the same coin.
Be civil, please, and learn how to spell ``Hindu``. Remember ``you are no Hamidm``.
