[..Almost a 750,000 soldiers for a population of 4-5 million...]
pakis have been whining about ``700,000 soldiers`` for as long as I can remember ... Is this number correct?... Is their a reliable source to verify this?...
not that it matters... I mean - indian army has to do something... instead of sitting on their a$$es - they can as well do some target practice in Kashmir.... right?... :)

It was wrong to ban Salim Chauhan when this debate is going on. He certainly brings a perspective that no one else does. I request Chowk Staff to allow his posts on this topic be exempted from the ban.

once railway gets done with kashmir, it will never go to pakistan...kashmiris will have the same freedom to use railways tracks that all other indians enjoy. this is the largest public sanitation project since Harrapan times...congratulations railways.

Dear Salim Chauhan
I missed your post since you have been locked out. But I can assume the gist of your line of thought. (your crime may have been some transgression against a female postee? I guess)
Anyway. Some time back, I also used to mull over this folly of Jinnah`s creation.
But, I now sincerely believe, that creation of Pakistan has indeed done a great good to this North-West area of South Asia in terms of economic uplift. The fact that we have also screwed ourselves up by imbibing some Saudi philosophy is a different matter - and hopefully, it is a passing phase.
Re-uniting again is beset with greater hazards - adding 160 million Pakistanis, 130 million Bangladeshis and about 150 Milliion Indian Muslims will create a roughly 1/3 Muslim minority in India - and that is far too big a nuisance to destabalize all.
So no harm being an unheard Ireland or Scotland to Great Britain - borders make no differences - a federation perhaps of South Asia - all independent but having a titular unity.
As for Kashmir, as Dost Mitter said, just take the ideas of Musharraf (not really his ideas?) and wrap it up.
nhk

Lebanon was once 95% Christian. It is going to be swallowed by the ummah very soon. Unless we Hindus start expelling Muslims from India, we stand to lose West Bengal (may not be such a bad thing), Assam, and Tripura in the long run - just like Kashmiri Muslims now feel that because they are in the majority, they can shove their Islam-based separatist agenda down the Hindu minority`s throat.
All this talk goes on - all this ``Mullahs are bad`` by ``moderate`` Muslims, and ``Islam khatrey me hain`` by ``Islamist`` Muslims, and it keeps going back and forth, back and forth. Good cop, bad cop. At the end of the day, the Islamist agenda carries on inexorably. Muslims are good, non-Muslims are bad. Therefore Muslims cannot co-exist with non-Muslims in a secular state. Muslims become majority in THIS piece of land. The land is swallowed by the ummah. Next step - the next piece of land.
God knows when the world will wake up to this.
I worry about my children. And future generations.
I am banking on the whites to do what we idiot cowlike Hindus never could.
Let`s see what happens.

I hear ``railway .....``, very interesting actually. The railway construction work in Kashmir is not being disrupted. Why? Check out the `uncles` of those who have secured contracts for construction work.

[.....i know that india has invoked squatter`s rights to lay claim to kashmir, but just because you squat on the railroad tracks every morning doesn`t mean you own the tracks - they still belong to the indian railways .......]
Well, the Indian Railways has got locomotives with which they could clear the tracks but the Pakistanis and Kashmiris do not have a similar capability to exert disproportionate force against India. Therein lies the difference.

hamidm: you have an interesting measure of moderation - directly proportional to the number of liquor shops in town. :-)
Howeever, most people consider moderation to be in inverse proportion (as ``moderation in drinking``).
Glad to see your clear-eyed stand on Kashmir though. Very well put, if I may say so.

60 years after taking over Kashmir, the ratio of soldiers to civilians in Indian held Kashmir is by far the highest in the world (counting Iraq) in India. Almost a 750,000 soldiers for a population of 4-5 million!! And this is normally a docile population which has been turned hostile.
This facts speaks louder than all the rants directed towards Pakistan by Indians.

And why can`t you get it through your protein deficient head that you should be arguing this point with dost-mittar not me. I also believe like you do that Musharraf and Pakistan have no intention of giving up their `freedom struggle` in Indian J&K any time now or even in the next 10 years. All his nice sounding words to the contrary are being believed by dost-mittar not by me and that was precisely my point.
And in case you haven`t noticed, I have a legitimate right to express my views on this forum so why are you so rude when I do? Do you own this place?

frau sadna,
........ why can`t you get it through your protein deficient head that the struggle for kashmir doesn`t have much to do with jihad - it is simply a territorial dispute and we have a legitimate right to pursue our dream even if it is a pipe dream at this time .......... i know that india has invoked squatter`s rights to lay claim to kashmir, but just because you squat on the railroad tracks every morning doesn`t mean you own the tracks - they still belong to the indian railways .......

Yep - like hamidm says, pakis may kill each other for nothing - but they all agree on one thing - kashmir... it`s an obsession beyond comprehension... pakis are like that pre-historic squirrel in the movie ``ice age``... he wants that nut, even if he gets killed in the process... :)
The new generation pakis may turn out to be different - but the current lot is beyond repair... any chance of peace has to wait until these l0sers are dead and gone...
So - keeping that in mind - all india has to do is keep talking but carry a big stick... Muhan mein ram ram, bugal mein chhuri... :)

Dost Mitter, the big kashmir jihad with fiyadeen etc is a post-zia (after 1989) enterprise. so actually, as far as jihad against india goes, zia was prolly less pf a jihadi than musharaff.
