Ghori Sahib,
Thank you for sharing this lovely story about yet another one of Karachi`s treasures and your association with the lovely area around Garden West, Soldier Bazaar, and Lawrence Road.
No amount of terrorism, religious bigotry, or pollution is going to erase the affection many Karachiites have for this city by the sea.

very touching Ghori sahib!

madani sahib -- please don`t feel too nostalgic about those Karachi Kabootars -- you should visit Delhi if you miss those critters -- the whole place stinks with the kabootars doodoos including the Jama Masjid with the highest concerntration of the bird per square feet -- where the rascals are the biggest wazoo breakers for the pious ones....

Enjoyed gone old days. Things changed so fast in last 10 years. My one friend`s father told me things have changed 10 times in last ten years and than earlier 70 years of his life. Some things just pass away they do not return. I use to enjoy ``khabutarbaji`` when child. Now those birds have no space to fly specially when in winter all birds use to fly and they had space along riverbeds to drop and graze like low flying airmachines. Now so many buildings they have no chance. And when they use to return after long run along riverbed use to rise to land it still I enjoy in my mind. At that time nobody use to care if Khabutarbaj place his birds, now its millions rupees of land. It was addictive but enjoyable thing gone past.
Thanks for article.

Great reminiscences .... thanks.

Karachi ended when Defence Societies started. I can clearly draw a line there in 70s.

Karachi was till the Clifton bridge, and the Columbus Hotel was the suburban getaway. No further. If you liked seashells of-course you could go to behind Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazaar, or venture down the Kothari Parade, or look down from Old Clifton to the water.

Urbanization trends killed all that, which were so easily preventable.
