``next time you come through detroit, look me up - it will be a hoot !``
Sure! I look forward to it. But not in winters. I hate Michigan cold.
I will be down there this spring!

“I think karzai`s reluctance to see pakistan take steps to end the ``porous border`` is a mix of motives - part of it no doubt from the fact that karzai lived in pakistan and like many pakhtoons in afghanistan sees it as part of his turf.”
This is a rather superfluous observation. For him, living in exile in Pakistan don’t mean squat. He has no interest in Pakistan. The guy represents a group of people and has an alliance with the Northern Alliance a non Pakhatoon Majority group. Karzai’s motive is to continue to maintain that he represents Pakhtoons. The sealing of the borders would impact Pakhtoons only and it would surely impact some families and a few villages and his statements have some symbolic value.
But the reality on the ground is that after 25 years of war, there has already been lots of damage to the families in the area and everyone knows how dangerous it is to live by the borders. So his arguments and mind you the Jamaat Islami and Mullah Fazl are using the same arguments(soon mullah Omer would come out with the same arguments) are basically untenable and Pakistan can easily ignore that. He and his friends in Pakistani mullah and the Taliban are going to use the same argument for the emotional value.
The more taliban and karzai talk alike, the farce in Afghanistan would be exposed faster.
All these Mullahs, talibans and Karzai supporters are gangs of smugglers and drug dealers.

mohar,
now you are being an idiot ! .......... and i really don`t have the time to educate you but i will give you a hint - the majority of paktoons live in nwfp, baluchistan (and surprisingly, punjab and karachi!) ............. the tribal areas consist of seven agencies - khyber, kurram, bajaur, mohmand, orakzai, and north and south Waziristan ........ peshawar, bannu, kohat, tank and di khan are frontier regions and part of nwfp ............... i hope this helps .......
........ half the generals in the pak army, fifty percent of the prostitutes, and eighty percent of the truck drivers in pakistan are pashtuns - this will give you an idea of the scale of `economic integration`

Ooohh - baghdad bob is angry..... :0)
Sure, I may not know all about pakiland.... so pakis - tell us: If majority pashtuns live in ``settled areas`` - then who lives in so called tribal areas?... anybody?...
this is what wiki says: there is even a map that shows pashtuns to be concentrated in the tribal areas...
``The vast majority of Pashtuns can be found in an area stretching from western Pakistan to southeastern Afghanistan. Small additional colonies can be found in the Northern Areas, Azad Kashmir, Karachi in Pakistan as well as in other parts of Afghanistan..... Important metropolitan centers of Pashtun culture include Peshawar and Kandahar,``...

mohar mian,
........... you obviously have no idea what you are talking about - none whatsoever !............ hp is one hundred percent right, the majority of the pakhtoon (including my family) are well integrated into the pakistani economy - it is the tribal areas (also pakhtoon ) that are not, because the paki govt decided to `honor` the agreements the british had made with these rascals ............ the tribal agencies that constitute fata have their cake and eat it too : they benefit from federal money and facilities yet pay no taxes; the laws of pakistan do not apply in their territory so they are free to cultivate opium and the police can do diddly; they join the army and become generals and yet the army is not `allowed` in their teritory; they steal cars and kidnap people and hold them for ransom and the only thing you can do is try and deal with them through the political agent .............. they have the best of both worlds ...........
............ i hope this has been an education for you
p.s. i invite you to visit dara adam khel with me and check out the heroin labs, gun factories and private armies - it all sounds very romantic, but it is a big scam .............

HP #50 Given that there are millions of mines and other explosives planted around the world (including by the illustrious Russians bastards who would drop explosive-charged toys in Afghanistan for reasons best known to their demented minds), with poor farmers, children and suchlike around the world dying or getting maimed every year as a result, I agree that mines are no joking matter. And certainly no offense intended for the fine pakhtun people.
You are right about pakhtuns from both sides of the border being well integrated in the Pakistan economy and are among the most patriotic pakistani citizens. There has been a significant influx of well off pakhtuns from peshawar to islamabad. This is a vast change from what I recall from the 1960`s when pakhtoonistan was a major issue for pakistan.
I think karzai`s reluctance to see pakistan take steps to end the ``porous border`` is a mix of motives - part of it no doubt from the fact that karzai lived in pakistan and like many pakhtoons in afghanistan sees it as part of his turf. whatever the motives - mush has made a good move here since it takes away the credibility of karzai`s finger pointing at Pakistan regarding the taliban.
