I just revived my five-year-old membership to Chowk to find another stupid forum with hindus and muslims taking cheap shots at each other.

Chowk used to be a place where I could come and read something intellectually stimulating, something out of the ordinary.

My efforts to reset my membership was a waste of time as I am not going to find anything intelligent here anymore.

I do not know about Hamid Gul - he gets called the most dangerous man in Pakistan by a few foreign publications. In Pakistan retired officers are running various Fauji foundations, getting ambassadorships, public sector management jobs etc. I do not know how much influence they retain over their sub-ordinates once they leave the military. They seem closer to the levers of power than their American counterparts.

Yeah it happened for a week or so, and not in droves as you say. But not anymore. Sorry, there won`t be a civil war in Palestine. Lebanon maybe, where the Lebanese christian soldiers sat in their barracks and offered Israelis tea & biscuits while Haballah fought it out, but not in Palestine.

Reason why there was this conflict between Hamas and Fatah was that it is Hamas which is responsible for the Palestinian Authority after winning the elections, but can`t pay the salaries (60% in Gaza are employed by the PA) because Israel withholds the Palestinian share of customs revenue and would only talk to Fatah instigating it to remove Hamas and call for early elections. They did that but then there was even more violence. Recently as you may have heard, Israel released $ 100 million, but again to Fatah and not to the elected Government. But no violence this time. Hamas has said it will do without salaries, but not fight Fatah over this. Let them keep it.

Iran sure has a few missiles, but it`s no big deal for uncle sam`s war machine... persians are never good fighters, they never could defend themselves against foreign aggression and have been summarily converted to bedouinism at the height of their original civilization... they couldn`t even defeat saddam even when they have had a shia fifth column inside iraq...
